New Guy/Hood wont stay down

Hello, I'm the new guy. I've been carousing this forum and find it to be very interesting and informative.

My hood wont stay down (63 hardtop)--the windshield end rises 1/2" to 1". I installed a new set of hood springs to no avail, then installed new hood hinges and springs to no avail. Anyone else had this problem? Thanks in advance.

Don't have a Galaxie but how many bolts retain the spring to the car? Most likely you need to back all of them out and have a buddy push upward on the underside of the hood from the front and then tighten the bolt closest to the windshield first. You'll probably hood will probably be below the fender line at the windshield end at this point. Use finesse and patience from there. Helps to have two people for sure.

Hmmm....the hinge mounts to the firewall with 2 mount bolts through oval openings. The hinge is at its lowest possible mounting (bolts at very top of oval opening). Same with the part of the hinge that mounts to the fender well. I even considered grinding out the oval openings at the top to make the hinge "drop" more, but didnt want to try this until I'm sure its not the springs. One thing I noticed is the Gal's springs seem kind of wimpy in comparison to my T Bird's. I wonder if heavier duty springs would make a difference?

Nice to see another southern nevadan on the board.

Can you push the hood into place, only to have it spring back? IF so then the hinges are bolted on correctly, they've just been abused. People dont lube them, and they get gummy and then the pivot points get excess wear. IF you havent already, try giving the hinges a good cleaning, and then a nice shot of some white lithium grease. It can only help.

Loosen the front 2 bolts and raise them in their slot. That will lower the rear of the hood.

Tell me what you get cuz I know it'll work to some extent...

We'll have to get together with The other 2 vegas guys, MonsterMach, and Bad427Stang. Real stand up buncha guys. Also a fella goes by CasedPunkLife or somethin like that lives out in Boulder City.

I have been told that new springs will solve this. I have the same problem with my 64 , I kind of like it in the summer I leave it poped up for extra cooling , at least thats what I tell people who ask why its like that. To me it isnt a big deal just push it down plus I can tell if someone was under my hood .
