63 galaxie gas tank/fuel cell

can anyone tell me the original dimensions of the gas tank on a 63 fastback (height, width, depth)? my car doesn't have one right now. i was contemplating on a fuel cell but not for sure which way i want to go yet. i moved the leaf springs inboard and i don't think an original style will fit anymore.

Is the 64 gas tank the same dimension? I have a 64 tank tucked away in the garage. I can pull it ou and measure it for you if it is the same as the 63. I could probably do it this weekend.

i'm not for sure if they are the same, but i would guess that there is a chance that they would be. i can kkind of see the outline where my old tank was, and i can estimate on lenght and width, but depth i have no idea. i'd appreciate it if you could measure it in your spare time. thanks.

the 64 tank is the same dimensions, just a different filler neck

I have a custom made cell that might work in your car i will measure it tomarrow and take some pics. if you want to see how its made . Its stainless steel with bungs and a filler spout. is your custom cell made to mount in the trunk or underneath the car. i was hoping to find something that would work in the stock location. when i moved the leaf springs inboard. i added a piece of steel between the framerails to which the shackles are bolted to. so i would think if it measures the same as the original tank in width and depth, i'd be ok. i think it will depend on the length.

Here are the measurements, Top Front to back 25 in. bottom front to back 25 1/2 in. side to side 25 in. Depth at front 9 1/8 in. back 7 5/8 in. fill tube stands 5 1/2 in tall and extends 2 1/2 in. beyond back of tank. if you want pics. send me a e-mail torino@wilkes.net i will send some. I took the tank out this morning and discoverd i was lied to is metal not stainless but the straps are stainless . Just wanted everyone to know that i was unaware as its painted to look like stainless. Thanks Brent

thanks tbolt for the measurements. i'm afraid your tank won't work. after looking underneath my car again, i've decided i will slap a fuel cell in trunk.
