Heater Core replacement question

okay, so I've got the plenum chamber down from the firewall. How does one go about disconnecting the cables from levers? The cables are coiled around the levers and are kept on the levers by some little black device that looks like a sombrero and they are durn hard to get off. Any advice?

Heater Core replacement question

never mind, I popped the sombreros off and have the plenum on the bench. Geez, my heater core looked like somebody tried to caulk the thing. Needless to say, the seals are toast. Oh well, having fun.
