Molding fiberglass cowl on steel hood?

Has anybody done this I have a 4" cowl hood and am not sure exactly how to mold it on. What I was planning on doing is rivetting or screwing the cowl to the hood, after cutting a hole just big enough for the air cleaner. Then it gets sketchy I have been told bondo and fiberglass won't work it will just crack and to use an epoxy. Or get a hole fiberglass hood wich definatly won't be happenign. So if anyone has ever done this I would appreciate the help and how yours turned out. It's a '68 Galaxie.

See the thing is I already have the cowl and I picked it up at a swap meet for $40. Plus I would realy rather have a molded look rather than bolt on.

I have never seen a successful fiberglass to metal bond. They all crack eventually.

I read about an adhesive designed for this, but I will have to look around for the info. I'll get back here when I find it.

I found this information from Jok Nicholson on Drag Racing Online. He's a local racer and says this stuff works great, but I don't see a part number.

It will work on fiberglass to metal (like my wheel open panels to metal body), fiberglass to fiberglass and plastic to plastics or plastics to fiberglass. I can't imagine a better way to mold a scoop into a hood panel or even install metal panels over a rust hole in a car body. About $24.00 for a kit.</BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>

I've had success doing this. You'll want to scuff the area really well on both the hood &amp; the scoop. Then use fiberglass resin to bond it to the hood &amp; use a fair amount of resin &amp; boat cloth on the inside to keep it attached. I'm using 4 stainless angles welded to the hood &amp; pop riveted to the scoop to "help" keep mine on.

If you grab a Super Chevy Magazine, there is a company that sells steel cowl hood scoops that advertises in the back of the magazine, and if you really want a cowl hood, that is the way to go. I have done 5 of them to date on all kinds of cars and they turn out awesome because they are welded in.

If you want to glass it use an old surf board making technique
scuff it up as 1/4 mile mentioned . pop rivit it. and then use fiber glass robe ( uedes to atach the skegs ( fins) onto surf borads. Saturate it with surf board resin and mold it on.
Remeber if you glass it on do not Slam the hood to often.
You might want to get rid of the hood latch and pin the hood down. thats if you want to glass it. Use the Pannel bond it will be easier.
