I know it has a switch in the base where the bulb goes and the parking lights might have to be on to get power,I put one in my 65 custom but I cant exactly remember how it works as I have it stored at my moms house. Jeff

The trunk light in my 65 was wired to the park light circuit. The light was on when the parks were on trunk open or closed.

We had a '65. There is supposed to be a mercury bulb type switch in the trunk lid. It may be mounted close to the lock or where the sheetmetal takes a turn to flat, close to the bend. Seems like the light was mounted so that it would be high up when the lid was up and the switch was within 3-4 inches of it. Not sure where the power came from. The only reason I remember that is when I was a kid, someone hit the car from behind. The trunk would not open with the key so Dad pulled the rear seat out and asked me to climb under and get into the trunk, take some plyers, and rotate the lock cylinder so we could open the trunk lid. When I got it open, I asked him what the silver thing was connected to the wires and he told me.

The switch is a mercury switch integral with the socket. A correct factory one mounts in the left hand side of the trunk lid face,
so it points down when the the lid is open. Correct wiring is full time, comes on independent of any other electrical item, wiring routes out the bottom left of the lid thru a hole there.

Mister68: thanks...tried it and, thats how mine(original for sure) is hooked up too, no switch, comes on with the parklamps, lid up or down- judging by the responses here, it must have varied with assembly plant or changed thru the production run.
