Opinion question...tire size...big/little or same size?

I know Chilly has a thread goin' right now too, but I am getting ready to order a new set of wheels for the XL.

Right now I have 15x7 215/70 front and 15x8 235/70 rear. I just can't decide if I want to stay with big/little or go same size all the way around. I really like Psivory's white '67 with the Torque Thrust D's with the same size all around, and had thought about that, but I also like Mister68's Magnum 500's with big/little combo.

The Weld's look good, but just are not the look I am after....

I kinda like the look of the larger tires in back. I suppose you could go with same rim diameter with larger tire on the back. When I put the tires on mine I was real new at this and didn't think about putting a larger tire on back. If I was to do it again I would consider it.

You know I'm a big & littles guy.

Greg has a point on the spare thing if you drive a lot. If you just drive for fun and not many miles you can put the spare as a "small" size tire and wheel cause you'll be fixing the flat tire probably pretty quick.

I kept the old letter series spare in that 62 Sunliner and had the 16" TTII wheels with the basic sizes as you have now only as a 60 profile 16" and they looked real good.

I personally think the old style TT's look good on your car with the white letters. It helps to fill the wheel wells and set the rest of the car off since you have a red coupe.

I also happen to think deep steelies painted body color and hupcaps look good on those 67-69 cars too.

Get the engine issues sorted out, Jim?

The Guys are right about the spare tire issue and that is why I tried to keep my tire diameters as close as possible. The difference between my front 215/70R15 and rear 255/60R15 diameter is 2 tenths of an inch or about 9 revs per mile. My spare is also a 215/70R15, I know this isn't a perfect match for the rear but the 255/60R15 wouldn't clear the upper ball joints. If you don't have a posi then no problem.

The new 390 is on schedule to slide into it's new home the week of July 4th. I am off that whole week for the plant shutdown. Then, if my timing is right, it will be off to the exhaust shop the next week.

Keep your fingers crossed.....

Thanks guys for the input!

I think I will probably stay with the big 'n' little combo on a set of Magnum's. I have a friend with a set I will throw on and take a pic or two. I was gonna see if I could maybe squeeze a 275/60 out back on a 15x8, but I need to do some measuring first.

This has been a tough decision. I had the Welds on my previous '67 (lime-green) and thought they looked really good, but I just don't seem to like them as much with the red. It's amazine how the same body style and wheels look different with just a color change.

Thanks again guys, I'll post some pics when I get everything squared away...

It will probably all change 10 times before I get them ordered...
