electrical or mechanical guages....

Looking to get some aftermarket temp guages, are the mechanical or electrical more accurate? The mech ones sell for more, are the electric ones easier to run due to smaller wires? Thanks

I asked the same question when I was looking for gauges. mechanical gauges are supposed to work faster and more precise, but are more diffiulct to install.

I ended up with some sunpro gauges which were cheap and had mechanical senders. Like the guys said before, I would think if not for a high performance race motor it doesn't really matter what you pick.

If you go mechanical be sure NOT to get the gauges with the little plastic tubing for the oil. I ordered the Summit brand mechanical gauge cluster and had it all installed and it worked fine for a while, but one day I pull up to a stop light and notice no oil pressure. I happened to look underneath the car at the stoplight and sure enough a steady flow of oil dripping on the ground. The heat of the engine burned through the tube and it wasn't touching anything. I just ordered the eletrical so I don't have to deal with that mess anymore but I like the idea of the mechanical gauges.

Just realized you were talking about temp gauges and not oil so I guess your ok either way you go.

I used electrical because I think that capillary tube running to the dash looks cheap and ugly.Electrical temps are harder to find.Your choices are limited unless you go with the expensive units.I also experienced the oil tube burn through.Sitting at a red light, hot oil pouring down on my leg from where my oil tube melted.Smoke started coming out from under the hood.Luckly for me I had recently decided to carry a fire extinguisher..I think electrical is safer.
