C-6 swap into 60-64 Galaxie

What do I need to swap the C-6 into my 62 Galaxie in case my Cruise-A-Matic is no good? Cruise has been sitting in a high mileage car for about 10 years but the C-6 is in good shape.

What engine do you have? What transmission do you have? If you have an FE engine and a FE C-6 then all you need is a C-6 flex plate and late model starter to match the trans. You will have to move the trans crossmember back about 3" and change the yoke on the drive shaft. Rebend the cooler lines to fit and play with the linkage a little.

FE Engine, Trans that came with my new FE engine (1969) C-6. Have all the parts to do the cross over. Couple of questions I have is: Can I just modify the trans crossmember by adding 3"? Really hate to modify the frame at all. Also will the stock Cruise-A-Matic shift indicater line up after adjustment?

You have to move the whole crossmember back 3". You can weld some angle iron on the frame to bolt the crossmember to. I cut the crossmember ends and moved them and welded and added guskets[?]. That way if I wanted to put it back to stock all I need was a crossmember.

Besides the moving of the tranny cross member, drive shaft need to be shortened also? I heard that you also need a C-6 yoke.

And by the way, that be Gussets

Ok, who's beautiful 63 is that? I want details. Mine's not done and I need inspiration. What color is that anyway? The stance is perfection.

Thanx, Phil

Driveshaft does not need to be shortened. But you do need the C-6 yoke.

Cool on the drive shaft. I have an extra crossmember for the gal. I think I will modify that one and get everything ready for when I do the swap. What do you know on the the rear transmount, the donor car (Mercury) which had the FE in it had a different transmount which had 3 bolts in it and wraped around from the rear, however it was broke. I used the 6-cyl one because it still bolted up. Do you know if the 3 bolt type as described was specific to the Merc or I need to change from the one I am using to this other type.

don't cut anything yet. I found x-member extentions for $20.00 at http://www.critesrestoration.com/galaxie.htm after I made my own.
