Need a 62 Galaxie Automatic Column

Starting to get my power train wrapped up and looks like I will need a "Auto" steering column as the car used to have the 3 on a tree. If there is a way to convert the column I have please feel free to give some insight.

The column shifted automatics used a double column tube setup if I recall correctly. A very attractive alternative would be to use the '62 Mercury Monterey automatic column which is a nicer looking single tube setup. You're also going to need the appropriate shift indicator assembly for the dash

Just happens that my parts car is a 62 Merc Montery and I just happen to also have a Cruise-A-Matic indicator for a 62 Gal. What else will I need?

If your parts car is column and linkage complete, you're in business! Use an XL or Merc steering wheel and horn ring. By the way, was the car you're doing the swap on originally a Y-block or FE car? Would your clutch equipment be available?

Complete, pulled the column this afternoon, disassembled, cleaned sanded and painted to match the interior. You mentioned the XL wheel, is the wheel more in line with the merc column? also noticed that the merc column had two extension bolts for the main mount and also a mounting plate under the column, would this be the same for a XL version Galaxie or Merc specific?

As for the linkages, sorry if it had been a FE it would have stayed. Used to have a MM6 & 3 speed with OD.

Rattpac,

Email this guy, his name is Stan hscstanman@zoomtown.com . He's parting out a 62 and selling the parts.

62 Merc column will not work to my expectations. I would end up modifying my trans indicator to make it work and I am shooting for originality so still looking for the column.
