Gas Tank Drain Plug ?

Now that winter is setting in, I got to thinking about draining the gas from my tank. Usually I add stabilizer, but a total drain would be nice.

Has anyone found a good drain kit, plug or anything that allows for easy draining during the off season? Something that could be threaded in? My first impression is that it would be difficult to get a good seal. Then there is the issue of drilling a gas tank !!

Hmm, you sure the tank doesn't have a drain already? Most do, in one of the corners.

Gas Tank Drain Plug ?

I have never seen a factory installed drain plug on any 60's or above Galaxie Fuel tanks. Much like the early drain plugs on rear axles and automatic transmission oil pans; somewhere along the way the factory seems to have decided they were no longer needed. You would think they were worth keeping?

My 64 has a factory installed drain plug on the gas tank it came in real handy when I had to change the sending unit for the gas gauge.

Gas Tank Drain Plug ?

My 64 stock tank had a drain plug. So does the new replacement tank made with the stock tooling.

Gas Tank Drain Plug ?

My 64 gal has the original gas tank and it does not have a drain plug. It ia a late model 64: built 4-64. I have noticed a lot of differences in my car and ones built early in the model year.

I would suggest if youre not going to be pulling the tank or otherwise working on it, just to top it off and add stabilizer- wont take long to use a tank in the spring
I was told that what usually causes rust in the tanks is a non-full tank- temperature changes cause condensation above the fuel level from air expanding/contracting during temp changes from day/night...if the tanks full or almost full, theres very little air to expand/contract and draw in moisture...add a bottle of dry-gas(alcohol) to absorb any small amount of moisture- thats what a buddy told me long ago, and it seemed to make sense.
I agree a drain would be nice, now wish I woulda added one when I flushed/sealed my tank, just in case I ever want to drain/remove it for any reason...I'd not want to drill a hole even in an empty tank...a guy at work was changing a fuel line on his racecar a year or so ago, knocked over his troublelight and poof- put him in the burn ward for a month, lost his car and garage...almost an arm. even a few drops of gas on your clothes can make ya a torch real easy. I for one had never even thought of 'what if' I dropped a troublelight...even the smallest spark and its all over.

I've looked at this statement and don't see 65 any where in it?
