460 C-6 Swap

Go to www.math.byu.edu/~bill/ The front mounts work good. And don't mount the engine too high. This is a good site.

460 C-6 Swap

I am using a 4 speed behind the one I'm doing. I just thought others would be interested in this site as most are going with C-6s. I used the 390 mounts and was only able to pick up two of the bolt holes on the 460 block. Had to move the trans crossmember as far foward as it would go to get fire wall clearance. Then only had about 1/2". Working on Z bar mount now. Will try to post pictures later.

i'll keep checking back, i'm doing the same in my 63 getting the 514 built up now and looking for the big input/output toploader out of a galaxie. what headers are you going to use with that? i was going to use the crites ones but not sure if there is enough clearence for them using the fe motor mounts

I am about to modify the 352 mounts out of my '63 to install the 514 as well. My headers of choice will probably be the Crites long tubes because they are fairly inexpensive and have the 3.5" collector I wanted to mate up to my 4" flows. I will also post up some pics of the final install. The only thing I am really worried about is the power brake booster. I think I might be converting to manual brakes because it does not look like there is enough room for the valve covers.

460 C-6 Swap

I ordered the Crites Engine mount kit today for my 64 Galaxie 460 swap. I was uneasy asking for information from the lady that took my order, she appeared to be short on time and was very brief or I wasn't making my point real well either way I was not comfortable, hope that is not a bad omen. Thanks for this great forum, you guys are tops. I was hoping to get a little confidence and feedback from someone there but it did not happen. I hope they work. I heard of the FE mounts being reworked to fit, but I don't have the equipment to drill large holes.
Take care,
Bill Bailey

Crites has been in the business for a long time, they have probably been asked the same questions that you asked in more ways, more tones, and with less "tact" than you could ever guess.

They provide services to a very small class of customers, in a very select niche product group. That being said, there are days, times and some people that just catch the wet end of the stick. I've had a run in with a female voice at the end of the phone ; then on another day, called and found her pleasant and accommodating to deal with. Guess its the Luck of the draw.

Most of the stuff they sell does exactly what they say it will do; it doesn't come in a fancy vacuum formed blister pack, with 6-color graphics. They have traditionally sold to the mechanically inclined, old school Hot Rodder types. Now that Fords are popular with (some) spoon-fed, want it delivered in 24 hours converts, those new to Galaxies in particular...when they occasionally exhibit flashbacks of that old style attitude, it can seem a bit harsh. They'll talk to you and try to help you with a problem, with their products. Just don't expect a lot of hand holding.

Like a lot of others; I've been in this car hobby for a while and I have to remind myself all the time… there are some real characters out there. Sometimes you just have to deal with them the best you can, as long as you can, if you can’t, then just move on. The good thing about being on the phone, you can always hang up, wait a while (a couple of hours, days, weeks…whatever it takes to calm down), then call back.

All in all, they are generally honest, stand behind their products...just about as genuine as a business that deals with car guys can be. The worst thing I've experienced or heard about them is ....sometimes, they can get behind on delivery. Usually because they won’t send out crap, just to make the deadline. (Although it would be nice if they called you to tell why there was a delay, instead of waiting for you to call them).

I have a set of Crites mounts. I don't like them. They take a set of regular 429-460 mounts and saw the ears off of the frame side, drill a hole clear thru, put a carrage bolt all the way from the engine side mounting plate and weld it. It has no cushion. It also mounts the engine too high. I didn't use them. As far as drilling large holes in the FE mounts, use a hole saw.

Thanks for the feedback, I guess I was looking for a "hand holder", I like that expression. I will contact Crites and see if they are on the way. I am in no particular hurry, just curious I guess. I mounted the Edelbrock 60669 heads, and Trick Flow Roller rockers and pushrods, adjusted valve lash on hydraulic lifters, installed the Edelbrock Air Gap manifold in the last 2 days taking my time, it is a thing of beauty, I painted the block and timig cover/ water pump Ford red, Aluminum heads and Candy blue Ford power valve covers, good ol red white and blue. Take care and thanks again.
