65 Galaxie w/ EFI 5.0 - Exhaust ?

Well my uncle and I finally got arounf to doing the efi swap. But after trying 2 different style headers we still have not found any that worked. I was just wondering who else has/ or has put a SBF into their 65 Galaxie and what headers they used. I heard Comet headers should work, but am unsure. Its a convertible if it matters.

Thanks, Johnnie.

Hedman headers # 89470 work with a 289/302 in the '65 and up full size Ford's. They are a shorty design, similar to the original 5.0 Mudtang headers.

Ask Scott ("psivory" login name) to post some pics, that's what he is running on his.

Is there any long tubes that can be used?

Not that I am aware of. The only other thing I can think of is maybe, and this is a big MAYBE, a set of long tubes for a '72 and up Torino (or any mid-size) might work since the frames are similar, but not identical.

Once again, I have not tried it. It is only an observation I made in the similarities between the 2 different chassis.

But it's Ford, they would never make a part that you might be able to use in 2 different applications....

I am thinking about putting EFI in my 65 custom and what parts did you use for the conversion and I have the 90s truck shorty headers on the 302 in the custom. Jeff

We used engine, trans, wiring and computer from a 91 mustang. I then upgraded to an "A9L" computer. I used a fuel pump from a XR4Ti (or whatever its called) and a few other parts from here and there. I own a couple 5.0s and have been messing with them for a few years so I know that EFI system pretty well.

I went the EFI route and came up frustrated with inconsistent operation. Eventually, it turned out the wire harness was causing my adventure. You can find a new harness with connectors, etc, but it will run you about $500. Also make certain you get a relatively new engine and computer.

As to 5.0 headers, maybe the shorties will work. Apparently so. I found nothing of the longer variety to fit past the steering box and eventually had the Falcon set modified into a custom set. It's great, but costly. Go shortie if you can.

We have it all hook up and it starts and runs, but due to the headers not fitting I have them mounted upside down right now so we could start the engine. The 5.0 headers only fit the pass side. We were thinking about going custom but since the Bronco/F150 headers seem to work we'll be going that route. Those headers look great, is that ceramic coating?

They came coated from Hedman. 2 years so far and no burning or anything.
