Class III Hitch

Does anyone have a receiver style hitch on their Galaxie or Wagon? I was thinking of installing one that has the receiver hidden behind the license plate. I was quoted $500 -$700 to have one custom made. I may try to modify a universal motorhome hitch I picked up then having a professional weld it up.

John,

I am interested in doing the same on my 63 Country Sedan. Let me know what reciever you are using if you get it done. I may just have to build it myself.

A local welding shop custom fabricated a CatII hitch for my wife's '65 Galaxie. I requested bolt in installation so that it can be taken off and copied if I need to. Painted black and installed cost $225.

$700 seems high, even for a CatIII.

If it was $225 around here I wouldn't think twice about having it made, but everything seems to be more expensive than the rest of the country here in the Bay Area. With the price of housing, labor rates are high.

Of all places, Lowes has a "universal" adjustable unit. Aboute 125 bucks IIRC.

Thanks Dan, I'll check it out. I'm going to try and mock up a receiver this weekend using wood and cardboard.
