Scratch in Cylinderwall, Help! :(

I highly recommend to NEVER hone a cylinder by hand.

Your hand is not round and you will cause imperfections in the curve of the cyl.

Do not hone too much Andersson, and think about ordering +.010 oversize rings for that cylindar.

You want your ring gap to be the same on all of the cylinders regardless of piston size, and, since you honed the one cylinder yesterday then again today that hole is bigger than the rest and the rings need to be gapped accordingly.

I don't know what type of hone you have but what BarryR stated above is Wrong.

When you run a hone in your cylinder you are removing materian and a dial gauge will show you just how much. It's significant. It is really easy to remove .003 to .005 without even knowing you've gone that far.

Your engine will run better and perform better if you go slightly oversize on all your compression rings and fit them to each bore individually.

With this being done you will have a more even keel on your compression and each cylinder will fire more efficiently than if everything was hodge podge and clearances weren't paid close attention to.

If you need to learn how to fit the rings to each cylinder just PM me and I'll send you an instructional PM with ring gap tolerances.

Remember, your rings do 99% of the piston's job in creating the seal in the bore for compression.

Not wanting to step on toes but I would not put .010 over rings there. Back in the day ford had piston problems with the 2.3 and we were honing them in the car and installing .003 oversize pistons with standard rings and it worked fine. I did at least 12 of these with no problems. I do not know if .003 are available for this engine although. If you hone it out that big then you will have piston slap.

Falcon, Again thanks to you for taking time.

I feel that i´m done with the honing, I actually didn´t take more on the specific cylilder today, Just the remaining 7, Rings and bearings have been ordered, I´ll know more in a few weeks when i´ve been able assemble the engine and measure things up.

Thanks to everyone, I´ll post later how this ended up beeing.

gbic1, I went with standard cast rings, Hopefully this will turn out working OK, It´s no high perf motor, Just a cruiser/ratrod.

Thanks!
