Rear Wheel Hop \'72 LTD

Gang - My '72 is now fully restored with original 429 now a 500 hp 466 c.i.d monster. I beefed up the rear by boxing the control arms (upper and lower) and put poly bushings in the lowers but she still wheel hops badly from a dead stop with full throttle starts. Any suggestions?

You know what you should do, if you don't get the answer here, is check out 460ford.com

Lots of 460 engine builders, but more importantly, lots of 460 drag racers there. They're happy to help and they run the p*ss out of those eninges. They'll know!

Did you put poly in the uppers???????????????????

he does'nt need to go to 460.com just because a 460 gave him wheel hop.

If you still have rubber bushings in your upper arms (I am assuming) then they are what should be causing your problem. They are loading and unloading quickly and cant catch up. When ever you put poly bushings in your rear control arms, IMHO It is always best to make them all poly. Esspecially for a performance machine with big power.

The other possible cause is your tire selection. But I stand with what I typed above.

I realize that engine size doesn't matter, but that site's the best for racing advice with Ford-made cars.

I guarantee there's someone there with a car that had the same issues. Guys with any Ford go there for feedback.

Sorry i gotta say 460 ford is mainly for racers not many people driving street driven cars and most of them are dedicated race cars and none of them from what I have seen are full size cars.

You are right, newwaterfordbuy, this is an awesome site for Ford owners. I was merely suggesting a second source of information, which I can't ever see as a bad thing. Whenever I have a question, this is the first place I go to. I merely pointed out that the 460ford site had a lot of different cars, different engines to discuss, and, as I said, "if you don't get the answer here," there are other sites which might help him. My thinking was that aaflank had beefed up the stock suspension, so he needed to go beyond stock, especially given that he is now sporting 500 horsepower, and that's where any suggestion would be welcome, whether it's from here or anywhere.

No slight against other posters intended.

No slight against this web site intended.

No slight intended, period.

This site does a wonderful job.

To redeem myself for any misunderstanding of my intentions, I have provided a defaced picture of a Chevy below. Enjoy.
