Loliner Facelift Complete

Loliner, Is it still to early to identify what the applications for the rack may be? I have a 61 with a 428 using the FPA headers for the normal steering box and would like to go to a R&P system.

Thanks,

Scott...

I am not sure about FPA headers unless those are the ones that Rick Wurth was working on with a company out of Texas. I seem to remember a conversation with him that he was having a company fab some headers that would work with a FE engine and his rack and pinion conversion. If that be the case then certainly our system will work on a 61 with a 428. We have been working on a 64 Galaxie with a 427 and if you recall had an article in Custom Rodder a couple of years ago going through the installation process. That project has been on the back burner for awhile pending funding, but looks to be starting fairly soon.

FPA does have two sets of headers for the FE motor. One that works with the rack and one that doesn't. From what I understand, the ones that work with the rack are a fairly new product.

That is true there is a set that will work with the Wurth rack however that is not the ones I have. I have the tr-y headers for the FE and I bought them knowing they would not work with the Wurth set up. I needed to drive the car for a while with the steering box on it and the shorty looking headers for the rack will not fit with the box on the car.
At any rate my plan at the time was to use a 300M rack as they are much heaver than the Chevy center steer rack and I had most of the fitup worked out but I did not like the sharp angle from the pinion to the end of the column so I quit working on it for now. I was just hoping to be able to get something that works so I did not have to devote the time to completing the mounting brackets.

Thanks,

Scott. By the way FPA is in Oregon or Washington one, not Texas...
