1964 Power steering question

I bought my Fast back last year and with your help I am learning alot. My car came with a power steering resevoir on the fender well ( I guess because mine had no fender wells.) My engine came from a 64 4 door (352) and resevour is on the pump. Which is correct. My car is supposed to be 390 car. My car came with a/c. I just have not seen a reference to it either way. Is it the air that makes a difference? Thanks

1964 Power steering question

I would like to know myself. I have a 64 Gal parts car with a 352 and it has the resevoir on the pump. I also have a 64 Mercury Parklane parts car with a Zcode 390 and it has the resevoir on the inner fender. I would suspect that on a 64 with a 390, it should be on the pump. My guess.

1964 Power steering question

On my 64 sedan with 289 and A/C the reservoir is on the pump. But I've seen various engines with and without A/C on 63/4's and I haven't really noticed a pattern. It's most likely one of those deals that varied from plant to plant and with whichever parts they had on hand.

1964 Power steering question

My '64 had factory A/C on a 390 and had the remote reservoir on the fender. Dealer installed AC just had the regular original PS tank on the pump That is the difference best I can tell as you say. I can't say for the small block cars however. Stu

1964 Power steering question

I have 4 64 galaxies and a 63. I have looked at this closely myself. I believe the factory big block cars with A/C had the 'remote' oil resovoir mounted on the inner fender and non A/C cars had the resovoir on top of the pump (i think it would be very difficult to check and fill, if it was mounted directly under the A/C compressor). I not sure about small block cars but suspect the same. Hope this helps

1964 Power steering question

My Uncle had two 63 1/2 Gals(I own one of them now, and my cousin owns the other), one with a 352FE and no AC had to resovoir on the pump, the other had a 390FE with AC and it had the resovoir mounted on the fender well. I am thinking that with the FE motors with AC the resovoir is mounted on the fender..., I could be wrong, hope this helps also.

With Fe's , factory installed a/c the resovoir was mounted on the inner fender. Without a/c or dealed installed they were mounted on the pump.
