Crites Headers for 460

I would like to hear from some of you guys who have and are useing the crites headers for a 460. (Pro's and Con's) I am deciding on what kind of header to use. Long tube or tri-y for my 64 Galaxie. I have put my project away for about 6 months and its time to get back at it. I am planning on a Wilwood hydralic clutch application. As soon as I get my headers I can fire my engine for the frist time. Its been about a year since I finished it (460,stroked to 514). The crites are a reasonable price but I would pay more for something I know will work better.

Re: Crites Headers for 460

I've got them, after some tweekage, they fit fine. I believe I got ones for power steering which I don't have. They are decent for the price, if they come too close to some stuff, heat till red hot and roll or bang to shape it. I did all that in 3 places and then got them ceramic coated (that was not cheap). They look badass under that thing. There is a sequence to putting them on which will make sense while you do it. Once they are on the engine kinda loose, put the collector on the way it fits best. It's a tight fit but it will go on. Put 2 bolts through the tabs on the collector and tighten up on the engine. You may find tightening on the engine first might work better and still give some movement.

Thanks for the info and the pictures. I agree they look badass! I am almost positive I am going to use them. I really want to use longtube headers. I am going to use a hydralic clutch to make room for them with my 4sp Toploader.

Use the search function here and you will find endless info on them. I run them on my 68 because there is nothing else. They are well made but the design causes them to leak at the collector joints and they hang lower than whats really needed. For what its worth hpc coating can be had for about $250.

Re: Crites Headers for 460

I use them on my 63-1/2 with a 514 and C6. You can't really beat them for the money. Even if you have to mod them at a local muffler shop they are worth it to get long tubes instead of shortys. I have pics posted of the test fit at: Yahoo! Photos - 1963-1/2 Ford Galaxie
I tried to use the brush on header coating from Eastwood - don't waste your time. I hope to have mine HPC coated at some point instead.

Re: Crites Headers for 460

I am happy with my Crites Headers for the 460 and c-6 in my 64 Galaxie I had one small issue with mine and posted about it a year or so back. I had to put F E springs in to raise up the front end because I kept dinging them when I went over bouncy roads. Bill Bailey

Re: Crites Headers for 460

I was able to get some top picks of the headers I have posted in my progress thread, the orange 64 one.
