How to fix my trunk?

My trunk will not stay up, I think I am missing a part. Can someone take a picture of the hardware inside their 66 galaxie?

thanks..............

Re: How to fix my trunk?

The spring tension rods are probably not hooked up right or are missing. They go between the hinges up under the package tray area. Two long skinny steel rods that snap into place on the teeth that are a part of the hinge mount. Be careful! They are tricky and under a lot of tension.

66,

tomorrow I will take the trim pieces out of my trunk and snap a shot or 2 for ya... may not be pretty but should get ya goin'. Mine is a 65 but similar body, should have the same or very similar torsion rods.

Re: How to fix my trunk?

Okay, I do have the spring tension rods in place but notice there is a loose part between the inside of the hinge. The picture of the right hinge shows the tension rods. (on the other side of the rod is that piece I am trying to describe) Anyone know how that part is connected?

Re: How to fix my trunk?

OK... to hell with tomorrow..stopped by the house and snapped a few... here they are. Hope they help. The ones that arent yellow are taken from the passenger compartment with the back seat removed (the back side of the hinge)

Good luck

Re: How to fix my trunk?

66,

I just took a look at the pics I snapped and reviewed your question. It looks like they may be cold riveted or some sort of a blind screw (chicago screw type) assembly. It may be that there is enough room for a nut and bolt but I would ONLY use grade 8 hardware on it. That assembly is under a lot of tension and grade 5 might shear off...just a thought.. I would use lock-tight on the nut as well IMO.

Good luck

Re: How to fix my trunk?

I appreciate the pics bumble...I will try to look at it tomorrow but I think that I am missing the driver side part that I was describing earlier. Judging by your pics you have one each side. thanks for taking the time...
