Ford 352

I'm going to be completely honest in saying that I'm new to the FE series. I've been around mopar stuff a lot more than Ford stuff. But, I just bought a '63 Galaxie(It was too cheap and too pretty for me to pass it up) with a 352 and I'm looking to rebuild it. I'm not necessarily looking for a hi-po rebuild, I just want to ensure that I can stomp on it without throwing a rod. I've read that that 352 have smaller(weaker) connecting rods and I want to make this thing as durable as possible. It's an awesome motor and I want it to last as long as I do. Are there any good kits that would increase the durability of this motor without modifying it too much?

Re: Ford 352

Rebuild it as it sit's with stock parts. Get your rods shot peen'd and keep the rpm's under 6,000 and she'll never blow up!

They're a good build just not for high rpm's, they handle torque really well for what they had, something like 352 ft lbs of tourque at 2,800 rpm's...
A cam can and intake will boost those #'s real quick and you'll have power and safety unless you're going to race it.

AND an aluminum intake will shave 70 lbs off the front end!

A 352 is the most unrated overlooked motor in the fe family . Stock not a street stormer but you can wind them to the outerlimits . Hard to blow them suckers .

Re: Ford 352

I blew a couple 352's abck in my youth... pushed a piston into several diffrent chambers from hitting a patch of balck ice while full throttling it.... Lasted all of the time it took me to ralize the car wasn't thrusting foreward so much and to let up on the throttle....
oops

I see you live in nc . I go to work in a couple weeks on highway 40 to ashville right by your town . If you pm me I will give you my cell number . I have a good set that came off a 360 fe motor and intake if you want them . They will not cost you nothing but a small drive to 40 highway to meet me going through . As well tell me what else ya looking I may hook ya up in a better way . I will even clean them up for ya . Came off a strong running motor I wanted just the block .

Re: Ford 352

352 can be a nice motor. I felt the 390 motor that came in my 64 was a little under powered when paired up to the cruis-o-matic transmission. With a four speed it may have been different. You can run any aluminum intake and save a lot of weight off the motor. If you are going to do heads, do them right away. It's a pain in the a$$ to have remove the rockers and pushrods just to install a manifold then have to do it again with heads.

Bang for the buck would be to upgrade the carb and cam while replacing the intake manifold and throwing on a set of good FPA tri-y headers.

I personally like more than what the FE motor can safely and reliably produce. That's the main reason the 64 vert I am currently building is going to be breathing life through a 514 mated to an AOD. That's just me and up here in Montana there are a lot of really long roads with very few highway patrolmen. :^)

Just make sure if you are going to build the motor in steps that you plan it out thoroughly. Nothing sucks pineapples more than have to replace something that you just installed due to incompatibility. Good luck.

The tranny and gear ratios make a world of difference. The 390 I have now was in my brother inlaw's '74 Highboy 4x4 and that thing had some real pep. In my car it's a dog. Can't say it's a weight issue either.
