Ok, I've been asking around some ford circles and I get different responses to this question every time I ask it:
Is my 1967 Ford technically a "Ford
LTD", or a "Ford
Galaxie LTD"?
I was told that 1967 was the first year that the LTD had officially gained Nameplate status as a stand-alone model instead of as a trim level of the Galaxie. But to look at the cars, there are only two differences in a Galaxie and an LTD of this year... 1) the rear windows are shorter in an LTD than a Galaxie 500 (2-door fastbacks), with a matching difference in the roof frame aft of the back windows; and 2) the interior is upholstered differently. I looked at 2 VIN decoders, and one said LTD, the other said Galaxie LTD.
Aside from badges, that's it. The frame, engines, drivetrains, dash, body, and 98% of the parts are interchangeable. Would I be committing blasphemy if I put Galaxie lettering on the rear quarters? Please, end the confusion!!
