Model questions: 1967

Ok, I've been asking around some ford circles and I get different responses to this question every time I ask it:

Is my 1967 Ford technically a "Ford LTD", or a "Ford Galaxie LTD"?

I was told that 1967 was the first year that the LTD had officially gained Nameplate status as a stand-alone model instead of as a trim level of the Galaxie. But to look at the cars, there are only two differences in a Galaxie and an LTD of this year... 1) the rear windows are shorter in an LTD than a Galaxie 500 (2-door fastbacks), with a matching difference in the roof frame aft of the back windows; and 2) the interior is upholstered differently. I looked at 2 VIN decoders, and one said LTD, the other said Galaxie LTD.

Aside from badges, that's it. The frame, engines, drivetrains, dash, body, and 98% of the parts are interchangeable. Would I be committing blasphemy if I put Galaxie lettering on the rear quarters? Please, end the confusion!!

FORD LTD

1967 was the first year the name GALAXIE was not used in conjunction. The LTD was the top trim level and as you have pointed out had it's own roofline (2DR)
