Angry Arrrrgggghh!!! Thermostat housing!

Put a new radiator in the G5 last weekend along with a new thermostat and a few other items. As I was tightening up the thermostat housing one of the ears snapped. While I was waiting for the radiator to arrive, I ordered a new thermostat housing online. Took about a week to get it. right size, right angle, wrong thermostat groove.

Went to Auto Zone, Pep Boys and Napa, none in stock, Auto Zone could get it in 3 days. Ordered it Saturday, came in today. Right size, right angle, wrong thermostat groove! What does it take to get a thermostat housing?! I can't find one, anybody know where I can get one? I wanna drive my Gal!

Looking for a housing that fits a 66 390 with the BIG thermostat, if I used one of the little thermostats that fits the housing I got it would fall into the block.

Sorry if this is a repeat question for the forum. I did several searches and couldn't come up with anything.

Re: Arrrrgggghh!!! Thermostat housing!

Now when I got the thermostat for mine i had to be sure to tell them the large thermostat as there were small and large for the 390.
Maybe you need to tell them for '64 or be sure they get one for 4 barrel or something. The one for the intake on the 2v intake was the smaller one in my case. Maybe that's the error.

Re: Arrrrgggghh!!! Thermostat housing!

You can use the small block housing if you cut a doughnut-shape plate from a piece of sheetmetal. Put it between the thermostat and the intake to keep the thermostat from falling in.

He has the opposite problem, the thermostat is bigger around than the groove for it. I suppose you could get the smaller t-stat and do like oneputtster said for the other side though.

If you want to go a bit exotic, Robb MC Performance makes clockable housings for the FE. I ordered a starter from them when I had problems with a new flexplate on an old block and they were very helpful.
