Hey 54
I had a 66 Mk1A tiger with a 260 V8 mild cam (RV) and headers.... Hard to keep running cool in traffic and with the short wheelbase and 14 inch narrow tires was flat out nasty in the corners. Get on her too hard in a corner and you would find yourself facing the wrong direction. Stock 260 2V was 164 horses and best time I have seen advertised for a stock Tiger with a 288 gear in the rear was 12.8 second quarter mile.
The Tiger was a short lived beast with only 4 years in production and about 6000 made. Chrysler corporation bought out the Roots group in 67; who owned Sunbeam and then found out they couldn't transplant their 318 between the fenders. Not being able to stand selling a car with a Ford engine the line died out.
But then if you had an Alpine you probably know all this. The engine I am currently building for my 65 Galaxie was originally destined for the Series 5 Alpine sleeping in my garage. Time I get done I am hoping for around 340-350 horses. It will most likely end up in the Alpine again when I can afford to build an FE for the Gal.
The engine is a 99 roller block with a Ford Motorsport E303 cam (498 lift 220 duration), Hyper flat top 10.2:1 pistons, 3 bar GT40 heads ported and polished, Edelbrock performer 302 aluminum intake (slight porting and gasket matched), either a Holley or Edelbrock 600 cfm carb, 1.6:1 roller rockers, Edelbrock valve springs, standard Melling blood pump, HEI (yeah I know.....no boos' limited budget and I picked it up CHEAP) distributor, and Summit shortie headers dumping into Patriot chrome side pipes.
Here's my 66 when I had her
