Hey Gary,
I'm going to post this to you, and then write a nice letter to Greg Donahue ordering all the stuff that I need to get the H/D Unit, and the Autolite 4100 into the 3.14.

Things are heating up, and getting serious here. Will be taking JPGs, and keeping YOU, and EVERYONE updated.

I can now say this to YOU: It's wonderful to have a Gal to love!

Hey Gary,
Can I quote you on that?

[BTW, that should be "...TWO Gals now." "Gal's" (with an apostrophe) is "possessive", "Gals" (without an apostrophe) is "plural". Hopefully neither of your "plural" Gals are "possessive"!]

BTW, I got the letter to Greg Donahue done, and am going to finish here, and head to the post office to send that puppy off. Things are heating up, and getting SERIOUS!

YOU hang in there!

Re: Interior Work on Ms. American 3.14159

Hey All,
Got the order for everything off to Greg Donahue. Should hit there on Thursday morning.

GD's Catalog says that it will be three working days for UPS to deliver. Stuff should be here late Tuesday or maybe early Wednesday.

Re: Interior Work on Ms. American 3.14159

Hey All,
The surface rusted area under the rear seat has gotten two applications of osphophosphoric acid (OSPHO) this morning. The rust turns Black when it turns to Iron Oxide. This area will be getting a number of more applications which supposedly will stop the rusting.

The passenger side engine compartment got cleaned, steel wooled, compounded and then buffed, and it looks really good. The clips that hold the cable to the starter got removed and buffed with an abrasive buffer wheel so that they now look like new metal, all nice and shiny.

There are parts of that surface that are not yet reachable, such as behind the hood hinges. But when the heads and exhaust manifolds are being planed to stop the leaking, the hood will be taken off, along with the hinges, and then those areas will get cleaned and polished.

The hinges will be cleaned up with the abrasive buffing wheels, and repainted.

Also used the abrasive buffing wheel on the brake line that comes from the master cylinder, and the fuel line that comes from the fuel pump to the chrome log fuel manifold for the Holley 4150.

Another part that needs attention is the engine side of the firewall. There's a lot of wiring, boxes, plugs, and etc. on that surface. Will get that cleaned when the hood is removed.

Anyway, it's time to do some more work on the Vusic Instrument that I am restoring, and then it will be time for a nappie before Judge Judy comes on.

Hope you all are well.

Little by little the engine compartment is starting to look good again.

You are making progress! A day or two and you'll have new treasures to expose. Even when I know what's in the box I like getting them.

Keep on truckin'

It'll be a little more than a day or two, but everything from Greg Donahue should be here by this time next week, or at least by the end of the week

Me too!

Here's what SHOULD be in the box:

C3AZ-16476A Heater Core Assembly
C0AF-18A594A Heater Air Inlet Duct Cover and Plate
C3AZ-9890A Choke Heat Chamber Assembly
C1AE-9865A Choke Outlet Tube Insulation
C3AZ-18472A Heater Hose ("proper&correct")
C4AZ-16240 Inner A-Frame Splash Guards

Plus a NEW Greg Donahue Catalog!

I sent GD a couple of pictures of Ms.American 3.14159, and a couple of questions concerning his ever hearing of another 64 4-D, H-T, PI, and if he had any idea where information about such matters could be found, like maybe a 64 PI Registry.

So today, I have to do what I can on the Vusic Instrument that I'm restoring. The waiting is for epoxy and Gorilla Glue to cure. And in the mean time, I'm going to be out with M.A.3.14 working on spiffing up the engine compartment. I'll probably go sometime this week and get the materials to make the "bridge" over the engine compartment, and get THAT built as well.

And when I get all the stuff to put the H/D Unit back under the dash, then will come the entire logistical process of getting the Heads and Exhaust Manifolds planed. That will be such an improvement. I kind of like the volume of the exhaust note, BUT it's uneven because it's Cylinders 1, 4, 5, and 8 that are leaking and that makes a kind of a strange "lope" to the engine. Plus there is an amount of "hissing". The old Gal should be quiet as a purring kitten when all the work is done.

I'm going to be making a DETAILED itinerary of the Head/Exhaust work that needs to be done and the order in which it has to be done so that the whole thing can be "metaphysically" accomplished a number of time BEFORE it actually happens in the REAL world. I'll be going over it repeatedly to make sure that I know how everything is supposed to go and in what order everything needs to be done.

The FUN part of doing THAT is to see how well one "envisions" the process, because there is ALWAYS stuff that happens that has NOT been anticipated.

The descriptions of the efforts in the 1964 Ford and Mercury Shop Manual detail the actual doing of the deed, but the preparatory efforts BETWEEN the actual procedures are left up to the doer.

One's comprehension of the task is called into question. I mean, it's a matter of EACH and EVERY detail being "grokked" so that there's nothing that will stymie the actual doing of the work. And this is MOST important in the preparation, for EVERYTHING necessary to do the job has to be on hand, seeing as to how, there's no other transportation available once the 3.14 is incapacitated.

AND there's all kinds of stuff that has to be done BEFORE the work can proceed, like the original Water Pump has to be rebuilt.

The FE Specialist in Livingston said he's never done it before, but has all the equipment to do it, and the Shop Manual has the instructions on how to do it. He said he'd be willing to give it a shot. What I need to do is take him the Water Pump, the new parts, and the Shop Manual description. I have every confidence that he can handle the task.

Anyway, everything is FUN, and I'm under no deadline or time constraint, and I DO have some wiggle room, in that the guy at the auto parts store has told me that he would deliver parts if necessary.

BTW, I noticed that there is a switch that is activated by the reverse lever on the column shift, that turns on the Back Up Lights. but that it is completely broken. I've never seen a back-up light switch listed anywhere, but then again, I've never looked for one. That's something else to which I'll have to attend.

So hope you have a GREAT day.

JC, a little heads up on your next project, before you remove the hood and hinges take a sharp awl and scratch in the outline where the hood bolts to the hinges and where the hinges bolt to the car, this will save you a boatload of time and trouble with aligninment of the hood when you put it back together.

I second the above post... UNLESS, you can easily see the outline of the washer mark left by the bolts.

They are fairly easy to get back to where they were before if the washer ring is still there when you re-assemble
