Mercury wagon is running again- fixed wiring problem

It only took me a few months to get the merc wagon running again after engine rebuild and other stuff. Turns out my wiring problem was the cigarette lighter grounding out.

Used Ford 406's recommendation and took my car into Bill's auto repair in Orange,Ca to get it running and track down wiring.

My tow vehicle broke down after I got there, 1 hour from home, so Bill towed my car and trailer back home while I had tow vehicle towed back by AAA.

Re: Mercury wagon is running again- fixed wiring problem

I like Bill, he's a good guy. He baby sat the Shotrod for me for a week after it got wrecked. And the sewing machine for a month til I could pick it up and other things. Sounds like you sure had some fun.
Those durn cig lighters are sure sneaky boogers. I forgot to put the little washer thingy on mine or something and found out real quick when I went to hook it up again. Sparks a flyin!

I don't know if you saw the thing with the blondie photoshoping a top on my car and saying it was hers or not a while back on here. But that was at bills old shop where the pic was taken right after it happened.

Glad to hear you found the prob though and got her going again.

Deb

Fakesnake - I dont mean to jump off topic but your car is bad a$$!!!! I am newer on this site so I havent talked to you much. I had a 1960 Ford Country Sedan with a 390/417 that I loved! I was hit by a drunk driver at over 70mph and lost the car but it saved my life.

Love the ford wagons!!!!

Thanks. I also have a 61 Ford 2 door wagon I am rebuilding. That sucks about your wagon. I have seen some 60 wagons for sale but they are out here on the west coast.

I know. I see them on e-bay all the time but it would be about 1200 to have them shipped.

I had a 61 wagon that i was going use for some parts. It was totaly past restoration. I think my dad put the rear end in his car, that was all we used!

Re: Mercury wagon is running again- fixed wiring problem

Snake,
You've done some sweet restos on those old Gal's! I am starting my first one in between deployments so it will be a little slow but i have a question for you. Do you have any recommendations for media blasting in the area? I don't want to pay the 3-5k that Hot Rod's in Escondido quoted me. You have any good body shops you would recommend as well? I am going to try most repair work myself with help from reliable friend but need paint and things done by someone.
Thanks for any help.
