17x8's on 64 galaxie

I'm puttin 18's on the 64 of mine. I myself don't think anything bigger is a good look for it but that's my 2 cents. I was going to put 15's on and after I tried 18's with 305's on the back, it fit better than alot of 15's. Just as long as it's tasteful not tacky and overblinged. PS, later model Mustang bullit rims fit, with zero offset and spacers for the rear, but it can be done.

To each their own. I think on the right 60s car, restomod or what it might be big wheels can fit the car well. Making a statement like all 60's cars only look good with only 15 inch wheels or smaller ?? LOL Hey look at my car. ya like it ??? Ya I do it looks cools.. are they 15s or 16s on it ? 16s Oh wait sorry then it looks retarded. Talk like that about everything? just don't be insulted and surprised when you pull into a show or a cruise night and no one likes you.

We need to start a photo database of what these wheel and tire combinations look like. What back space, tire size, rim size, everything. I think the smallest tire change, like adding a little width, can really change the attitude of a car. But you can never really know till you have popped for the rims and tires already.

I found a simple "Tire Size Comparator" program on the internet a while back. It can compare the look of different sized wheels and tires. If you enter your ratios it will even tell you the difference in cruizing speed RPMs. its freeware from

Or better yet you can put a grand finishing touch on them big azz wheels by installing those spinners that keep going around when the car stops...them things are waaaaay cool. I'm not trying to start a war here, I'm off my meds and trying to have a little fun with this.

No war on my end. As far as I'm concerened we'er just talking. Besides we are not going to change anyones mind, and I'm very thicked skin so you wont hurt my feelings. I like the idea of different opinions.... so here's some more of mine.

First of all 17's are not big by any shape or form, for a Galaxie. I can promise you are in the minorty on thinking that. When I say minority I dont mean on this forum, I mean in the gereral automotive world.

Now I never said bigger is better, by any means! I dispise the whole Dork...er..Donk thing, it's just stupid in my opinion. Then again I hate 13" brokes...er..spokes. I also dont like big wheels on everything that moves. I have a 57 Ranchero that has wide white walls, and 15"chrome reverses. So It depends on the style, and the type of car you have.

What does it matter how old the car is? Its called customizing, and as far as I know there is no set year for that. As for the spinners; not my thing either, but little known fact - spinners were first avaliable in the the late80's/or very early 90's, and hummm... guess what size that was for?....them little azz 15's, so maybe you need them for yours.

Oh and as far as that Model A; if you were around in the 60's (which by my guess you were) alot of people put 15" Cragers on lowered Model A's, and T's for that matter. But if you like the stock look you would just have to keep those big ass stock 19", or 21" wheels they came with!

Dont be insulted or suprised when you pull into a show or cruise night, and you dont get the attention you'd like because a tatestfully done car w/big wheels is getting it all.

You need to look around and realize - That this is not 1975 anymore.

I saw your post last week on the HAMB about air suspensions. I went to your website and saw that cool azz convert. I am working on a 65' Country Sedan that i have started the air ride conversion on. Can you give me some info about how you did yours.

Tires and wheels are like women, no offense Shotrod, some like em bigger and some like em smaller. If we all liked the same thing there wouldn't be any surgery augmented women running around and now, what kind of fun would that be.

As my own opinion, I am in the middle on wheel sizes. I've seen 14" on a total concours type resto that looked good and 20" on a pro-street build that looked good. I opted for the less expensive meet in the middle with 17" rear and 16" front. I feel my car would look too "stock" with 14" or even 15" wheels. I would have loved to go 18" rear and 17" front but that would have meant two sets of custom wheels instead one. By the way, anything larger than 16" in an American Racing TT II has to be custom built so they can charge you an extra $100.00 a wheel.

Hey thanks for the comments on the conv. I'm always checking out the hamb, it is as far as I'm concerned the best forum on the web. Yea, I kinda spoke my mind about airride the other day.

I have a 64 Country Squire as well. I 've had it since 99, and it has bags, but I took it off the road in late 99 to do a full build up, and have not got back to it yet.

I would be more than happy to give you any pointers. To keep this thread on topic, and not to hijack it too much more IM me and I'll try, and point you in the right direction.

Well this is not finshed yet but I almost always put big wheels on all the pic's I edit. If you use the rite wheel it can look really good and in some cases far far better then the crap 14/15 inch that came on the car if it's pulled off right. My 64 maraurder the back wheel openings are massive I have 15 70 235s on it and they are still lost. ??? that looks cool does it. If I had the money to do it, I would have 16s on the front and 17s on the back with big rubber on both.
