Re: Frank Butler's 1964 R-code in Muscle Car Review

347LX
Just use a Frame from a 6cyl car. It's made of thinner Gage steel.
I don't know what a 64 weighed, but I
know a 65 lightweight weighs 3450.

What'd the 64 lightweights weigh? 3450 isn't too far off from my 67 which says 3522lbs on the title.

Those weights on the title are not actual, the only way you know is by sticking that big mama on a scale with a full tank. My FE 65 Gal with auto weighed in at 3965 actual with a full tank. That is why the lightweights are so amazing. Here you have an FE powered Galaxie that weighs a little more than a small block powered Dodge Dart!

That depends on who you talk to.
I have a 65 Lightweight! Briefly

In 1975 I went looking for a Lightweight. I wanted a 64 but a friend told me about a 65. I went to look at the car.

It has Fiberglass Fenders,Hood,F/bumper,DOORS &
Deck lid. It had a High-riser w/ toploader.
When I can scrounge up some old
pictures, I will.
There will be no new pictures because
the car is completely apart, so it's not
much to look at any way.

Re: Frank Butler's 1964 R-code in Muscle Car Review

Wait, wait. Are you saying that you have a FACTORY 65 Galaxie lightweight? Is it the only one ever produced, because all research never mentions a 65, and some articles I have read outright say that in 1965 NO lightweights were produced by Ford for the stock classes, AFX being a different story. Unless Tasca did something on the sly with a 65 Galaxie? Regardless of all that, I would like to know how that car of yours ended up with F-glass fenders AND doors seeing that no one produces them. I am most interested in this. Someone with some real knowlege on lightweight Fords please chime in on this!

Re: Frank Butler's 1964 R-code in Muscle Car Review

I think the frames would be the same except Cnv. If there is any difference it would be more likely in the suspension. Higher rated springs or shocks, something like that.

I was just trying to find the weight in the owners manual for the shotrod and never looked at the warranty before. 24 months or 24,000 miles which ever comes first but for the 427 it's only 90 days or 4000 miles. Hmmm guess they knew something.

3497-4059 it says for '65 XL. The higher is probably the convert. That's "curb" weight not actual weight though.

LOL. Might as well be, because they are never acurate. Its just like the gross vehicle weight ratio on the door stickers now, not actual weight.
