That bell housing pivot ball for the 460 in a 65-68 GALAXIE is easy to make. check out the photo of my 460 bell housing that was in my 66 GALAXIE and COUNTRY SEEDAN wagon. btw that bell housing is 4 sail !! (sale) see foto here...Pictures by supershifter2 - Photobucket i used a 67-70 mustang length toploader (65-66 will also work just fine) with a big input and 31 spline main shaft i got from David Key toploader transmissions and a 67-70 Hurst mustang shifter and then switched to a no longer made Hurst supershifter2. (the foto next to the bellhousing of the trans is identical the the trans that was in the galaxie except its a close box and is attatched to a small block bellhousing that is behind a 392w stroker). the eq. bar and linkage from any 65-68 full size will work. one linkage set i had came from a 65 with a 6cyl and the other from a 67 with a 390 that the owner converted to auto and both linkages were identical. i got the pedal sets from both cars. i used the 69-70 mustang 428 clutch fork and pivot. weld a .250x1" steel strap to the bottom of the bell crank and use the same adjustable mustang linkage rod on the bottom. the mustang parts are available from NPD and other mustang suppliers. i used (and still have & 4 sale) a mcleod street twin clutch assy. for the 429 & internal balanced 460. i used a crites 460 engine mount kit the first time and used 68 t-bird/lincoln mkIII 429/460 frame brackets the second time with 69 429 Galaxie motor mounts and the engine must have ben in the same location both times cause the eq bar lined up perfect the second time also. i had the crites headers but rerouted the 2 front tubes on both sides so they didnt go under the lower a-arms and drag the ground-thats the worst header design i have ever seen. hope this helps someone in the future it looks like this question was started centuries ago but old shiftthis is hear 2 hep u sun !!!

I just pulled my 223 6cyl with a three speed toploader column shift from my 64 yesterday. I don't know if any parts interchange with the 65 or V8 but your welcome to any parts that you can use. PM me!

I have 67 Galaxie 500 390 with a 4 speed top loader, Hurst does not list a competition plus shifter for it? does anyone know a model that will fit?

I'm starting to get going on the research part of this project again, so I have a question for anyone who has experience with putting different transmissions on 390 motors: is there a version of the 5 speed put into the Fox-body Mustangs (or newer) that will mate to the 390? Probably a long-shot, but if it is possible, that's the road I'll take. Thanks again guys!
