Re: Nightmare parts scenario

I think I got mine along with a new tank from www.autocityclassics.com and it was pretty cheap. Gas tank and sender was at my door for a bit over 300, like 340 maybe shipped. I'd buy 100 tanks off them it was so good. I've never had problems with any of the other venders, especially Dearborn. They hooked up for stainless straps and everything fit, works and looks great.

Re: Nightmare parts scenario

That does sound nice. Never heard of them. I just called them and BIG SHOCK; no 65 tanks or senders, which is what started this damn problem in the first place.

Ron and I at Dennis-Carpenter have been working together for the past 2 weeks at this. He has been working together with Autokrafters; who sent DC the part. Autokrafters final conclusion is that all the 65 fuel senders that were sent to DC were made 3/4" to long. They cut the extra length out and reinstalled the fuel sock. They sent the modified sender back to Ron at DC and Ron is sending it to me. I have since learned that these parts (and who knows how many others) are made overseas. The second sender that also didnt work that I got from Mac's was made in tawain. So now this thing is supposed to be fixed, and I am expecting it by Saturday hopefully. We'll see. In retrospect, I shouldv'e went ahead and just fixed it myself, but I didnt want to hack up a brand new part. Like I said, we'll see. If I install that thing, and look inside the tank with a flashlight, the float and fuel filter should be sitting at the bottom of the tank right next to each other.

Re: Nightmare parts scenario

Well, its done. The new part came on 7-1 and I installed it to find the length to be right on. I filled up last night and the guage perked right up to Full. No reply from MAC'S on the fact that thier fuel sender also had a flaw with the male plug end being to long and smaller in diameter than OEM. Oh well. Overall, I am happy that the problem was solved, but alot of time and effort had to come out of me and not only was I not offered any kind of incentives from DC on the new part, but I had to pay for shipping of the bad part to go back to them. Ron emailed me recently and apologized for that, telling me to contact him with my next purchase to fix me up in some way then. MAC'S was on the ball when they automatically refunded me ALL shipping back and forth, (thier policy for a defective part) and sent me an email when the refund was processed. I learned alot from this experience. Now on to the next thing.....

Said many times before - "As beautiful as they are, '65 Galaxies are some trecherous little Beasties", gotta lov'em.

I bought one of the first Sender units from Dennis Carpenter, about 4 - 5 years ago. They were made out of stainless steel, were only available in 5/16th diameter tubing, which is way too small to feed the squirrel running in the cage under my hood , I ended up sending it back for many of the same reasons you found. My original was a 3/8ths tube. I finally took the time to clean and re-furbish it, now I wished I had gone with having the tank modified, install a 1/2in instead. But I never thought it was necessary.

Re: Nightmare parts scenario

Yeah, my new one had a tube that looked close to OEM, and I didn't measure it. A 3/8 rubber fuel line went right on. The hard OEM fuel line is real small though. (see fuel bottleneck thread)
