Nightmare parts scenario
First fuel sending unit from Dennis Carpenter-too long and couldnt be installed. Guy from returns didnt want to take my word for it and was an ass hole.
Second unit from Mac's-Made in Taiwan, poor quality, didnt work when mocked up. Made the gas gauge move a tiny tiny bit only.
Third times a charm. Dearborn Classics with thier damn high shipping costs. Why me?

Re: Nightmare parts scenario
Kanter didn't have one? Have you gotten Dearborn's yet? Duh, never mind, i was thinking autokrafters and we checked them already.
Can't believe you are having so much trouble but it does happen sometimes. Worse though when it's something you can't just drive down the street and exchange or return.
I was just wondering if they sent the wrong one or maybe your tank isn't the right one. But '65 is '65 only correct?

I checked autokrafters again and found this one. Is this the same part number you've been getting?

Re: Nightmare parts scenario
Yeah, that is it. I have it memorized by now. Autokrafters was on backorder last time I checked which is what led me to the others. The one from Dennis Carpenter says "Made exclusively for Autokrafters". As it turns out Dearborn's is $10 more and shipping is horrible, but I am going to call them today. I am VERY close to saying the hell with it, and putting it a fuel cell regardless of all the time I put into this damn tank. I was so pissed last night I could hardly get to sleep and I am not kidding. The worst part is having to deal with the country bumpkins at Dennis Carpenter. I have to argue the point that they need to refund all my shipping costs as well as the part itself, when the part was made wrong! Pray for me on that one. If they end up doing that, it will be a moral victory and I wont lose a supplier and they wont lose a customer.

Re: Nightmare parts scenario
That's right, forgot about the back order deal.
If you haven't called to order another yet let me do some looking around and see if I find another. They all come from just a couple places though but never know, might find one somewhere I hadn't thought of.

Re: Nightmare parts scenario
I found the one below also and I found this reply to a question on buying a '68 sending unit for a '65. Now if this is true, this will give you something to compare and if you still have the old one, is the arm interchangeable so that you can use the shorter arm? Anyway, you can read this and see if it will help any.
***The 65 gas tank is a one of a kind, in that it is 20 gallons, vs 25 for
66-68. The sending unit and fuel pick-up tube are a little shorter. It
would work, but you would run out of fuel way too soon, with fuel left
in the tank.***

Re: Nightmare parts scenario
There is nothing in the description, and no price, so I'll call them Monday. NOS huh? After what the "aftermarket" has given me this last couple times, that is really what I prefer. One thing is for certain, with all the hoopla surrounding the auto restoration market, I'll never underestimate the ability for these companies to supply these parts. I mean at first I thought it was going to be hard and now I have many places to chose from. Now if only the part would come to me operable.......

Re: Nightmare parts scenario
Update: A guy at Dennis-Carpenter named Ron that is kind of high up in rank is trying to find me an NOS fuel sender to kind of make things right. I'm waiting on him to get back with me today/tomorrow.
Mac's policy on defective parts is a full refund including ALL shipping charges incurred back and forth. So, both companies are still in my good graces as far as I am concerned. I'll let you all know how this goes.
Green sales sells only aftermarket in this part and that scares me since so far the aftermarket has sucked when it came to this. We'll see what Ron can do for me first.
