window door channel molding

Has anyone repaired the rubber/fuzzie molding that sits on the top of the door where the glass slides through? I am not too keen on buying a stock replacement for them. Is there another way to improve the situation, especially for the outside piece?

Re: window door channel molding

They're called window felts and they should be available aftermarket from MACS or some place like that.

Re: window door channel molding

Replaced them on my hardtop and then ordered another set for my project vert. The door panels I ordered from SMS came with the inners already attached so I will be sending the extra inners to Shotrod....if I ever get my arse to the ups shipping center. They are really easy to replace and make a helluva difference.

gbeeler, not like there's any big rush. Probably be some time before I think about fuzzys. So don't hurt yourself getting to UPS! LOL

btw, how did the door panels turn out, you'll have to post a pic in the progress thread.

Re: window door channel molding

There are 2 types. The 'fuzzys' that are (usually) stapled to the door panels.
the ones I had the hardest time trying to find were the outside ones, with the rubber 'wiper' that fit against the outside glass, wipe rain, moisture when you roll the window down.

When I had my car painted several years ago, they were not being made in reproduction. I got really lucky, there was a place that sold the pieces in 4 foot lengths. They were for some kind of industrial application. I needed to replace them last year - but the wherehouse had closed, no one knew if or where they were still in business or the location.

I did notice there is an extra long 'wiper' of the same type that fits on the rear window of Big Bronco's. So, that might be a way to find something you can use to replace it, if you can't find a custom fitted piece made for our Galaxies....I'll lament the same sad plea that I always make, you guys with the 63 - 64's have it a lot better than the 65 - 66 guys. It's not quite like the Mustangs, but they make a lot more reproduction parts for them than any of the other Galaxie years. Little by little the mfg. are starting to catch on to the trend - I just hope it continues despite the current financial mess some companies are going through.

Re: window door channel molding

Hmm good idea about a long wiper. Yes that is the kind of thing I was asking about. I read somewhere the fuzzie from Velcro would work. If anyone has actually tried or seen solutions like these, pitch in! thanks, tom

Re: window door channel molding

JC Whitney has a pretty good selection of generic belt weatherstripping, both the fuzzy type and the sweeping type. The prices are right if you just need enough for a door or two. If you need enough for a whole car the 8-piece sets sold by Auto Krafters, etc, etc, can be a better deal depending on your year car.

Re: window door channel molding

Yes GBeeler, please do tell about those SMS door panels. I am considering getting mine done. Did you stay strickly stock, or did they design something for you. Is your interior XL, or Gal 500, or what? ps. Sorry about the thread hijack but I think the original question is answered.

Re: window door channel molding

If SMS has all the inventory of Veteran's in Houston, man they have a bunch. I visited that place once and the old guy who owned it must have started collecting with Model T's.
He also had a lot of floorboard molds. You might get a good mail-order fit if you want carpet from them.
