Are people starting to panic?

I check US Ebay at least once a week to see what Galaxies are for sale, and there are usually about 70 to 80 there.
As of writing right now, there are 153 Galaxies listed.
Has the panic begun?

Well how many were there last summer? Classic / summer-only cars tend to show up more in the spring / summer.

Hey Mr. D,
"Panic"? You mean over gas prices? Actually, the high prices of petrol is but a redistribution of wealth. Right now, 2% of the world's population has 98% of the money, and the other 98% of the people have 2% of the money. The powers that be have decided that THAT is not equitable. So they are messing with the economy so that 2% of the population has 99% of the money, and the other 2% of the people have 1% of the money.

This trend will last till the 2% have decided that the population may go "critical mass", and then it will all slack off again.

In the meantime, to keep the 98% of the people "cool", the US Oligarchy will continue to send out $300.00 checks every now and then as an "economic stimulus".

If the American people would just sock that $300.00 away, the "economic stimulii" would become maybe a "daily" thing.

BTW, there's no real problem with the government having enough money. Right now there is a trillion, trillion dollar surplus, but they don't dare tell anyone about it. I happen to know about it because in doing research for one of my books, I ran across the clues, and when I got them all put together it became clear what they have.

If worse comes to worst, the government will just give EVERYONE in the USA an "economic stimulus" of $1,000,000.00, and it'd not make a dent in their cash stash.

I'll bet you'd like to know about the trillion, trillion bucks wouldn't you? Well, you'd have to read my book, "The Most Expensive"! BTW, it isn't published yet, and probably never will be, but I give them away free for the asking. It's a medium sized download.

The only problem with all of this is that there is an even BIGGER problem afoot. One that can't be solved by giving people money, and only a handful of people know about. That's in the book also.

Anyway, have a nice Winter, you lucky dog!

JC

Re: Are people starting to panic?

It's not a "Panic". If anything its a long overdue dose of reality, many of the people who got into the "old car" hobby in the last few years have little or no appreciation of what its all about.

Cars, in some respect, have assumed the same "status" as playing golf. Hold on, I'll explain what I'm saying...

Golf used to be a hobby where guys with more money than muscles could spend an afternoon impressing their equally rich friends with just how important they were - that being defined by the fact that they could "waste" a day on the links, and their company, boss, workers - whatever - was impressed enough with them to give them time to do it. Cars have gotten to be another status thing. Nothing says conspicuous consumption like having an old car, in prime condition that you can afford to keep running. Any time you can display status without actually having to be obvious about it - you can believe it will be emulated by people that "wanna-be" in the club.

So speculators, pretenders and what not swelled the ranks of car hobbyists. What we have here is the reality of prices vs. pride. The ones that really love the hobby have and will continue to build, drive and buy these relics of yesterday - and treat them with the care they deserve. The rest are starting to move on to the next big thing...whatever that may be. Hey, I know...Its probably the designer Body fad. Any one notice that they are now doing Face-lifts, boob jobs, liposuction (plastic surgery) in offices, even "The Mall"? Seems a lot of vain, needy people figure what you didn't get from Mother nature, (“genetics") you can buy, get it under the knife, through the artistry of the surgeon. Plus lets see them repossess a face lift!

So, the point is, if you like your hobby it hasn't changed so you won't change. If you are or were in it for something else besides the pleasure you get from having grease up to the elbow or a heavy foot on the gas pedal, this might be a good time to reevaluate your choices.

All this madness (watch the prices run up at a BJ auction) has a bright side; the participation of so many people in reconstruction of old Mustangs, Cobra kit cars, Fairlanes, Galaxies, Torinos, Falcons, etc - has brought us a lot of reproduction parts, web sites, information and visiblity for the hobby that we could never even had wished for 10 years ago. Bask in the glow!!!

Re: Are people starting to panic?

I just baught a 66 Convertable that is SOLID! With a brand new 5.0 and C4, and brand new 17X8 Bullet wheels for $2000. The car has every trim piece, and a TON of extra parts. People are starting to dump these things.

I would have paid 4k for this car.....
