No one wants to pay more than they have to, but its near impossible to give a price recommendation without being there, seeing the car, knowing how much the buyer wants the car and talking to the owner. Setting a price is always filled with "what-if's".

Do your homework.

Its far from 'just another 66 Galaxie, even back in the day they were something special; besides the motor which gave them the name, they came with disc brakes, special badging, a 9 3/8 rear gear, a diecast grill instead of the standard stamped aluminum one on all the other models. Granted, the engine wasn't a 427, but it was big enough, different enough to add value to the package. Different part of the country widely vary in pricing old iron.

I would agree that I wouldn't be insulted if offered 2,000 - 4,000 as a starting point - it would have to be something specia, for me to go much higher. the point that is more important is whether he is trying to sell or you are trying to buy, that makes all the difference.

What works against a higher price is the 65's - 66's just haven't caught on, yet! They are picking up speed as people are priced out of the more popular 63 - 64. As always, bigger motors, special equipment, suspension add to the value no matter what model you are looking at. Don't let 'bargain hunting blind you to a chance at a true collectable. Hate to hear in 5 - 10 years time the often repeated lament ... I coulda' bought a ________ for $X.00, but just didn't see the value in it at the time. seems to happen at least once a month on these pages.
If anyone IS interested in a rust Free ORIGINAL paint hardtop 7-Litre, there is one on the 7-Litre site right now. $12,900.00 firm, but car is supposed to be immaculate and NEVER TOUCHED.

Re: What's this 7.0L Galaxie worth

Thanks for the replies guys. I passed on it. First off, he wanted $8200 for it, which is clearly more than (a) it's worth and (b) I wanted to pay for it. So, it's still sitting in his yard, under the overhang beside his garage.

He says that's what he paid for it, and I spoke to the guy that encouraged him to buy it later on that week. The guy that encouraged him doesn't know squat in my opinion. The guy who bought it is great with resto-mod's but didn't want to cut this one up. Don't blame him there, but he got some bad advice to buy this one.

Thanks for the info guys

$8,200 officially makes him a nard tard...

The work that you could see needing done is only 1/4 of the work that you'd FIND after starting on the POS, 428 or not!

You'll find a decent one cheaper somewhere! Lord knows I finally did
