63 1/2 Galaxie Wiring Harness

One of the things I inherited with this car was a toasted wiring harness between the wiper switch and the wiper motor. Does anyone know of a supplier for this harness?

I don't know about just that piece but some have totally rewired with a kit from Painless. Unsure of the address. www.painless.com or something maybe?

Or you can just run new wires to replace those.

Seems like there is a place that sells wiring harnesses but can't think of who at the moment.

Thanks ShotRod....I've thought about replacing the wire myself and believe I'll start there. I also thought I'd put a fuse in line with the one wire that totally burned the insulation off, in case I can't find the reason it burned in the first place.

That might be a good idea on the fuse. I would go the same route cause I'm cheap and replacing the whole wiring under the dash just seems like a daunting task to me!

I'd start with that issue first. May be something as simple as a wiper motor seizing and drawing current in self destruct mode. The previous owner of my Gal soldered a link to a fuse to keep it from burning out. I found melted metal under the dash from where the lighter was stuck in and burning away. It was a recipe for disaster. Didn't your fuse pop at the panel? Should have. Is it the correct fuse?

Sounds like an interesting puzzle. Keep us posted.

Well, I've replaced the one wire that was completely devoid of insulation...had just enough copper left at one end of the stock connector to grab. I agree I need to backtrack the reason for this mess in the first place. I haven't been able to test the wiper motor yet, but with the cowl off, now's the time. I'll reinstall this harness and connect the battery and see what happens...smelling for smoke all the while!

Re: 63 1/2 Galaxie Wiring Harness

Good luck! Wiring is a nightmare sometimes.

My clock is disconnected and my radio now because of a short. No smoke or anything but found them while tracing a tail light problem with the multimeter. The radio doesn't work for some reason anyway and it did in 1990. Probably corrosion or something. The clock used to work when pulling out the stem to set it and letting it pop back in. But after I got done "cleaning" the little points and stuff it quit all together. Just no respect or gratitude from that ol car I tell ya.
