How does my transmission work -63

Ive got some thoughts regarding my transmission in my -63. I dont really know what kind of transmission it is. I was told its a C6, i havent found any tag yet thought. But i know where to look so i will do that soon. It says Cruise-O-Matic on the gear shifter thingy on the column.

In the meantime: I was thinking about the gears. In D position i get two gears it seems, with the second gear jumping in around 30. If i use kick down it shifts down to the previous gear. If start from standing still with a litle more gas it still use two gears.

In L position i get another 1'st gear it seams and then the second and third comes. So in L i have 3 gears, and in D i have 2 gears.

I can also start i L and then shift to D smothly without any strange sounds or anything. During driving.

This makes me confused. It feels like i only need the L mode for driving.

How should i relate to the function of the transmission? How should i use it properly. Is it meant that the L mode should be used in uphill driving or something.

Hey Mr. GD,
Just remember:

"L" means "Leap".

"D" means "Drag".

BUT "R" doesn't mean "Race",

And "P" doesn't mean "Pass"!

HTH
