Excessive Steering Wheel Movement

My 1967 Galaxie Has Excessive Steering Wheel Movement Side To Side, Top To Bottom...i Removed Steering Wheel, Turn Signal Switch, And Inside The Hub Where There Is An Exposed Bearing On The Shaft, You Can Actually See The Slop That I Am Talking About When You Move The Shaft. Is There A Bushing Or Something Offered To Repair This Anoying Problem? I Cannot Seem To Locate A Part In The 1967 Ford Factory Service Manual On This Topic. Anyone Else Ever Fixed This Issue? I Did Take A White Wire Metal Coat Hanger, Wrapped It Around The Outside Od Of A Socket To Get A Respectable "home-made Bushing", And After Making 2 Of These, It Did Fill The Area I Am Talking About, And Removed The Excessive Sloppy Movement Of The Wheel. I Did Not Find Any Plastic Or Metal Material In The Area Or Close By Area Showing A Once Had Bushing Or Whatever Was Used To Fill The Void, I Am Wondering If Someone Replaced The Bearing With A Smaller Od Size, And This Is The Problem. Thanks For Any Input~ Jt

Re: Excessive Steering Wheel Movement

There is a small reverse conical hat that sit's atop the bearing that has a spring that sit's atop that which is supposed to keep pressure on the bearing and hold the steering tight.

Sounds like your's is missing, or maybe a lock ring is out of place...

Try to find an exploded view of your column, and follow the parts trail
