What temperature is normal?

Hi all,

After much fuss, I finally got my new water neck, thermostat and adapter plate completed and back on the car. I took it out and drove it for about 45 minutes and according to the Mr. Gasket radiator cap with built in thermometer it was reading 195 when I got back to the house. I put a 160 Mr Gasket High Flow thermostat in it. Is 195-200 too hot? Will it damage anything? I want to drive it to a friends "white trash bash" Saturday night. but don't want it to lay down on me.

It's the perfect car to take since it's multi-hued right now with primer, rust, original paint and new spray-bomb paint.

thanks,
Bryan

sounds alright to me -- any wheres from 180 to 200 will not hurt your engine-- --start to look for problems if it boils over--

Re: What temperature is normal?

Thanks! I'm assuming if it boils over it will start puking water/coolant out the little overflow tube, right?

Re: What temperature is normal?

I second that and yes it will start burpin on ya and if it's too hot you'll hear it kinda making boiling noises. They will burp a little normally sometimes just because the water level might be a little high. Should only be filled to about halfway or an inch below the neck of the expansion tank.

Re: What temperature is normal?

I personally would have put a 185 degree stat in it. but actual 195 - 200 temps ren't bad, as long as it don't go much past it.
