headlight relay system
Anyone out there have any suggestions for the whole halogen headlight relay system conversions? I printed something from a company called MAD electric, but my research didnt go beyond there. This is the next upgrade for my 65.

Re: headlight relay system
I did my own, went to RadioShack and got a 30amp 12v relay, I ran a fused 12v 10ga wire from the hot side of the solenoid to the power in terminal on the relay and wired the feed from the headlight switch to the dimmer switch as the trigger. The 12v out(load) on the relay is wired to the dimmer switch feed terminal, and the negative(-) relay terminal gets grounded.

Re: headlight relay system
I bought mine from Mark Renolds. He is the President of the Galaxie Club of America. Around $20.00 if I remember correctly. I actually have bought two from him. The second one will be installed sometime next week when I get the vert back from the body shop.

Re: headlight relay system
Well, I called Painless performance, since I think of them when I think of wiring. The whole harness will be sold to me (through a dealer of course) for the paltry sum of $232.39 How EXACTLY is that PAINLESS? UTRY, how much was your conversion when it was all said and done. GBEELER, when were you able to buy that for $20 and how???

Re: headlight relay system
Go to the Galaxie Club of America website. You can email him (Mark) at director@galaxieclub.com Really nice guy. He builds them himself and sells quite a few of them. I could have been wrong on the price but I know it was under $50.00 for sure!!

Re: headlight relay system
Yeah, Mark emailed me back right away. He quoted $40 including shipping for both. I just might go that route, it even includes the power wire that goes from the battery!

Re: headlight relay system
I did mine for a $4.95 relay, a couple of connectors and about 6 ft. of wire, mine is under the dash with the wires going behind the kick plate. Out of sight. Some of the aftermarket ones have 2 relays and a bunch of different colored wires going to each headlight harness and mounts under the hood which really doesn't keep with the originality theme. The way mine is wired is it takes the amperage load of the halogens off of the headlight switch which is the weak link in the amperage draw. The headlight switch just serves a a trigger for the relay as well as the dash and taillights, which is a lot less draw than OEM.

Re: headlight relay system
Yeah, I know I would get a more customized result if I did it myself. I am more the type to read learn and do myself rather than have any of it already done, but I have to admit, for $40 a "plug and play" system is awfull tempting regardless of lost pride of having to farm something out to someone else with more experience than I. After it was all said and done, how much exactly did you spend in the long run?

Re: headlight relay system
After the new relays are in, what kind of lamps have folks put in? I am looking for something brighter (but not blue-looking), and plug n play.
