Removing rear package shelf

I need to remove and reinstall the rear package shelf in the '63 boxtop.
I noticed that teh shelf had either warped or poped out of place and is
sitting on top of the rear seat. The only thing I can think of is that it sat
in the sun too long with the trunk closed. It also may not have been
attahced properly.

Any info/directions on what I need to do? Anything I need to watch out for?

Thanks,

Re: Removing rear package shelf

I dont' know much about them but do be careful when removing as they are just like cardboard basically and will break easy when they are old.
I wonder if after removing you could heat it somehow, like with a hair dryer or something and then weight it down on a flat surface for a couple days. Maybe that would unwarp it? I would say steam but that would just make things worse as far as longevity probably.

What holds those in? Just a trip piece around the the top? Been a long time since I paid any attention to a rear window of an old car. Like since putting a curtain in one...it was the '70s so that was accepted. lol

Re: Removing rear package shelf

If it's a non XL it's made out of masonite installed upside down. In the rear it is held down by the window rubber. Up front you will need to remove the rear seat back and then you will see two little brackets that push onto the board and are held to the body with push clips.
