Is my Gal rare??
I always looked, but never found out, is a '64' 2dr fastback, vinyl top,390,cruisimatic,ps,pb,pw,select air, swingaway wheel,2speed wiper/washer rare? Another member I met at a show [owns 2 awsome '64's] that has been to the national shows said he didn't see any with so many extras. They add up to over $1800 in 1964 prices [a lot of $$$ for that time!] Other than the Galaxie club of America is there another registry online. I know someone outthere will know!!

Re: Is my Gal rare??
The only place I know is the the FGCoA and then the few people out there that know thier '64s.
PW and Swingaway are fairly rare options, the vinyl top I have only seen one but I rarely even see '64 galaxies at shows. But think the top might be more rare than the other stuff from what I've seen personally.
I have somewhere here a listing from '64 of the extras you could add. The only one I know for sure is the swingaway at $50 so the person had to decide if they wanted floor shift or swingaway which didn't come on floor shift cars.
Although PS, PB are real common and found on most but not all '64s. They would be add-ons like todays cars really.
Oh and 2 spd wipers, finding replacements for those are like finding needles in a haystack! I discovered I do have a back up switch but can't remember which junk car I removed it from or if I still have the motor for it. One I removed the motor and one i didn't. Hopefully somewhere in my junk I still have the motor and out of the correct car that the switch came out of.
Possibley someone else here might know more about all of those things. But i do know the wiper part is hard to find just not sure how many actually had them. If supply is any indication then they were a rare item.
Even back then the tires you chose added or subtracted to the cost of the vehicle.

Re: Is my Gal rare??
Here's the stuff you listed and prices. But everything is listed with a price, even the radio. But most are common that are on most of the cars out there.
Factory installed options
390 4v $137.60
Dual range Cruiso whatever that means $22.70 for XL
Power Brakes $43.20
Power Steering $86.30
Power Windows $102.10
A/C $360.90
Swingaway $50.00
Vinyl Roof $75.80
2 spd wipers
w/washer $20.10
Not sure where the $1800 price came from but even the above numbers were a lot back then.
The 4 door hardtop was priced $100 more than the 2 door. Now days it would be the other way around wouldn't it?
Would of been nice if ford had kept records like they did starting later on. Can't remember what year now though. 66?
The registry that FGCoA was gathering info for got lost in a computer crash or something like that Mark said. So it would have to be started over again.

Re: Is my Gal rare??
O.k. Deb, I forgot to add everything, so 390ci-137.50,cruiseomatic-212.30,ps-86.30,pb-43.20,pw-102.10,am radio-58.50,[safety group=padded dash-24.30,seat belts-16.80,remote mirror-12.00,select-air-360.90,swingaway-50,tint windows-40.30,whitewalls-33.90,hub caps-18.60,vinyl top-75.80====$1272.50+a base[guess]$3349=$$4494.50 For 1964 that had to be a lot of$$$ I did find out that the average price for cars that year was $2500.00 I do think it's funny that the rare item was the vinyl top! So I was off a bit, "220v-221v whatever it takes's" Mr Mom!!

Re: Is my Gal rare??
leave out the vinyl top, AC and power windows and mine has the same but xl version. Most of that stuff isn't special and to me not added into rarity except for, like you said, vinyl top, AC, Power windows and maybe the 2 spd wipers.
But that's just me.
Suggested Retail delivered for the Gal 500 2-dor HT was $2674 if that helps any with figuring all that in there.
I'm not sure why there wasn't that many vinyl tops unless it was the expense of it but really, compared to other items the price wasn't so bad.
I wasn't getting on you one iota about being off a bit, just was wondering where the $1800 came from so no need to be testy about it.
Mine has the same thing except A/C and PW and not a 500 but i'm sure not going to go through the accessories list and add them all up as most of it imo should be the basics in them even though it isn't. If I were looking to buy one it wouldn't be because of those options either it would be because I wanted a '64. But, not everyone would be that way they might require that they have specific things.
Mines a beat up ol thing but it wouldn't be for sale at any price.

Re: Is my Gal rare??
Off subject, but my 65 has a little box under the dash with seatbelt warning lite, low fuel warning lite, vacuum operated door lock button, and hazard lite button. Someone told me it is kind of rare. I looked in the door panels and all the vacuum operated stuff is still there. Any thoughts??? I have never seen the option on any other Gals. It is in the sales brochures for the year.
