removing dash?

Trying to remove dash on my 63, wondering how to remove

1)Ignition switch?

2)wiper/pull knobs?

i had to cut one of the bolts that held the steering column and dash togeather, the nut kept on spinning

The wiper switch you need to remove the knob and then the bezel to get it off. There is a tiny little allen head screw on the side near the end of the knob that you unscrew then you can remove it and remove the bezel.

The ignition switch you have to remove the cylinder first by putting the key in and turning to accessory then insert a straightened paperclip or stiff wire in that tiny little hole you will see on the front of the switch, You will feel it like depress a button in there and turn the key a bit more counter clockwise and the tumbler will come out. Push in on the switch from the back and turn it I think counter clockwise and then you can remove the bezel and such.

Sometimes on those screws and stuff that just keep turning because they are stripped or you just can't get to the other end you can stick something like the tip of a screw driver or whatever you can get to fit between the head of the screw or between the nut and what the screw is going through and pry just a little bit to keep tension on it as you try to unscrew it. Sometimes that is just enough tension to keep the whole thing from turning and to get it past the stripped part or get it moving. Doesn't always work but it does sometimes.

There is at least 1, maybe 2 switches, wiper may be one and only that need this special tool to go over the knob post once knobs off and it clicks to turn the switch housing and bezel. It's round with a cast in grip, maybe 1.25" long with a end having 2 teeth to lock in. I know Dearborn Classics have it, Concours Parts too if it's not available to you locally.

YA, this thing.

I used a screw driver that would catch in one of the slots and the other side of the screwdriver against the center if that makes sense and got it to turn. Once it's "broke loose" they screw right off.

Long nosed pliers work.

got one of the Knobs that had the allen screw apart and seperated.

Have 2 more and yes i believe one is the wiper not sure now b.c. the bezel(?)/label trim broke, more like shattered, and the other i believe to be a vent???????? Do i absoutly have to purchase this tool? Or other

I'm not sure exactly how or if the knob will pull off. i tried on the vent knob to pull hard b.c. wasn't excatly sure what it opereated, then all of a sudden the vent opened and all those nice mouse dropping and left overs fell out

If it's the left vent, disconnect the cable at the vent. Then slide a 5/8" deep sock unto the cable all the way up under the dash to the nut on the back and use a pair of pliers on the socket to remove the nut and then pull the cable out of the dash knob and all.

I just got done pulling the dash, heater and steering column. It is a chore as each knob seems to be mounted different from the other. I found a wide screwdriver works best for removal when there is no post running through the center, like those on the air vent controls. Thin bladed needle nose pliers with a 45 degree bend to them worked on the others.

I was lucky the only time I've had to mess with those knobs as the dash was already out of the car so was easier to see the back also. Glad to hear you got her out.
Ford is consistant aren't they? Almost each knob different, and each car a little different so interchanges aren't easy sometimes. Lots of little things like that. Keeps our minds active I guess.
