Rear leaf spring sagging

I noticed that in the rear one side is 1/2" lower than the other side. Do I have to replace or can you repair? I am not familiar with rear leaf springs, do you just add another piece in to raise it up if repairing?

Sup bro.

You can get em re-arched for around $100, take em off the car yourself and you will save yourself some $$$ too.

Atlas spring in L.A is good - real good, same day service

Only a 1/2 in? just throw a spare in the trunk. something about 50 lbs ought to make em even.

If that's all it is, it could just as easily be uneven ground,

Re: Rear leaf spring sagging

When I measured the wheel well height it was a 1/2" lower. When you look at it from the rear it appears to be more. I made sure the ground was level.

Driver's or passenger's side? If it's the driver's side, lose a little weight. LOL
Seriously, pull both rear spring assemblies and have them rearched. Should be a spring shop by you or in Sandy A-Go.

Re: Rear leaf spring sagging

I kinda learned a lesson here, I bought new front springs, stock, and rears which were 2 leafs added and everything was supposed to sit stock. Not quite. I actually took a hit on another set of new springs for the front, Dodge van ones actually and had a leaf added to one side plus re-arching both brand new (1 month) rears. The car sits dead nuts even now but is shimmed because it squats to one side. I'd have a spring shop balance it out and then alignments go nice and smooth.

Seriously?

I would suggest measuring (on level ground), from the same point on the frame from a point in front of spring at the front spring mount and at the rear spring hanger and finally at some where near the bumper support.

Bumpers do require alignment they can be moved a little. You did mention that you measured where the wheel well hit the wheel/tire. Just for grins, since you will be doing the work not me , try swapping the rear tires side to side, see if the problem carries over with the wheels or evens out. Before chasing a spring issue, I'd try to make sure that nothing else is wrong. It might even be that the rear frame which is kind of weak is slightly tweaked, an alignment shop has jacks that can help there. Re-arching springs - for a 1/2 inch difference, seems like trimming your moustach or eyebrows.... a little here, then a little there - pretty soon nothing is right.

by the way...they do make wedges that racers use to change/adjust pinion angles. You loosen the bolts that go over the axels, slide the wedges in and tighten the bolts again. Low riders use blocks to raise the axel, by dropping the spring....there has to be something yu can do to get 1/2 inch, without bending the spring, after all, its just a 1/2in.

Re: Rear leaf spring sagging

I'm reading this and im thinking im going crazy, im in the middle of a 4link conversion on my 64 Galaxie, new crossmember, etc, im off by 1/8th in some places but i have room for adjustment.

Im pretty sure alot of these cars came from the factory with some natural "tweaks" in the frame/body etc

Re: Rear leaf spring sagging

When i said 1/2" I should of clarified. I measured the top of wheel well lip on each side. The rear driver side sits 1/2" lower. Tire pressure looks good but you can see the actual body sagging slightly.

Re: Rear leaf spring sagging

I would measure the frame to the axle at ride height, also check the shackles, bushings, u bolts, look at your body mounts too.
