Re: 63 fuel line

Just like I say I'm going to do all the time and then think I'll remember. Wrong! I only remember half, if that!

Don't know about '63 but '64 runs along the frame on the driver side I believe. I've never actually looked at the middle, just each end. I'm not much help.

Re: 63 fuel line

This is a scan of the '64 but it should be the same. If the car is a 390 2 barrel it will have a return line too.

Do yourself a favour and get a factory shop manual. They are on ebay in CD form.

For some reason a 390 2 bbl has a return line don't ask me why!!! BTW As I looked further that was a Mercury only feature. As you were!

Thanks for the help. I did take pictures but clearly not enough. This is my first attempt at a job like this but I just love these cars.

Seems to work out that we never get the pics of the area we need to see. We have all been there!

I just replaced mine...body on, and it was an absolute bear. I got one from Classic Tube and it was bent to replace the factory alignment and bend points...along with a few "shipping bends." It was actually pretty close to right on. I swore often that "if only the body was off!!" This line was meant to be installed prior to the body going on, so you have the best shot at getting this right. From the fuel tank, the line generally heads toward the driver's side, crosses over top of the frame ahead of the rear axle to a position on the outboard side of the frame. Once it gets up to front of the front door, it transitions atop the frame again and winds around the steering column and ends up about mid-engine ready for that last rubber hose to the fuel pump. The line attaches at intervals with special clips that also support the brake line. Look on the driver's side outboard frame and see if you can find the clips I'm talking about. If they're still there, they're your guide to getting this line back where it belongs.
