Re: My 62 Galaxie Q Code Project

Managed to score some vintage Torq Thrust wheels off Oz ebay, they just need a little TLC. The sizes are 14x7 and 15x8.5, they come with new centre caps.
Now will have to mount the new 225-60 x 14 and 275-60x15 tires.

Re: My 62 Galaxie Q Code Project

I may have missed if you said it, but are you going back the factory color? I was considering the factory dark blue for mine, but I am undecided.

Hi Domino,
I will be painting the car in its current original color, Oxford Blue, which is a dark blue metallic. In some pics that I posted, the car looks like it was painted black.

Mrs WB has been getting very excited and wants to get stuck into refurbing the steering wheel, we have a few interior trim pieces and the dash that have to be rubbed back and primed. The interior paint color is a medium blue metallic and have had some paint mixed to as close as we could get it.

We had a package arrive from the states containing a very nice horn ring,, which will replace the badly pitted unit. Have considered getting these pieces restored locally, it is very expensive, am investigating what is involved, to strip off the plating and filling the holes. The methods vary and so does the result depending on who you talk to,

I would have loved to have had the car soda blasted, the car would have painted by now, but, US$2000 plus to strip the paint was just too much. Anyway we are very close to being ready to covering it with etch primer filler.

Re: My 62 Galaxie Q Code Project

It has been a while since my last post and things are still progressing albeit at a slower pace. The car is still not in primer, wasted time by trying to media blast some sections with garnet. It was not a good idea, in fact it was more trouble than it was worth and the clean up afterwards is a biatch.
I rebuilt the original fuel pump as it a high volume and sold the new unit to my brother who is in the process of rebuilding his 390 which is out of his 64 500XL (thats another story).

The car is at the stage where I will need a hand to remove the hood and front fenders so the firewall and inner fenders can be painted and the last short stainless pieces from the front fenders can be removed and polished. The interior window trims have been prepped and primed and work has begun on the dash to rub it back so it too can have some primer. In the meantime the usual events crop up this time of year and went on a rod run and a big swap meet which was a waste of time and in nearly 100 deg heat just completely wore me out.

Anyway here is a sneak peak of my older brother Adam’s 64XL which since the pics were taken has lost the Dayton wires and the engine is on a stand having new rings and bearings installed, a lumpier cam and Edelbrock Torker manifold fitted. The standard headers are an issue and he will be fitting the 390/406 shorty style cast headers which a reproductions.
