Re: I just bought a 66 Galaxie 390 tonight...

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new ride!

'66 is kind of the stray dog but is one of many other years as far as interchangebility. There are several here that have and know more about the '66. Engine parts and things like that interchange for the most part but body parts, gas tank and a couple other things i believe it's on it's own. Is there anything in particular you are wondering about? That would help as interchanges cover a wide area.

Before Rich gets in here and harrasses you, I'll beat him to it! You'll know him when you see him. He's the one that's gonna ask if you have a cat or some crazy thing. But the pics i'm ahead of him on! Got any pics of the new ride?

8-P~~ Rich!!

The whole front clip (Fenders, and hood) and the doors all interchange with the 65. The windshield may also, IF you get it from the right model.
Gas tank will interchange with a 65, but why would you want to, it has a smaller capacity and I believe you can still buy 66 gas tanks new. Im sure I forgot things but others will add to the list

The 1965 and the 1966 Year Models may resemble one another, but parts that swap are few. Especially regarding the body.

1966 was first year of new congress mandated SMOG engines. So a few things different under the hood too.

65 body parts are not going to interchange with a 66--
glass- frame- motor -trans -rear end- brake parts-

go back and put your location where you live --at least the state

what color cat ya got ??

What are the tank capacities on those anyway?

I was surprised that one of the small new cars had a 20 gallon tank, over heard the owner talking to someone. I remember them always having dinky tanks. Of course they didn't need big ones, they traveled farther on less than ours.

The '64 has an 18, and needs to be bigger to go with the "vacation size trunk" as they called it.

Darn, didn't think of the state.

Someone told me that hoods trunk lids and doors cross over between 65 and 66.
