Time to get a volt-ohm meter and find out where the power stops!

Re: Progress on The New 66

Ok Im just confused!!!! I was playing with the car today and I broke a wire that goes to the syliniod and whe I got it together the car was on the "on" position and when I went to coneect the wire the car started cranking when I touched the wire to the post. I had to pull the neg cable of to sotp it. It would stop when I turned the key back either. Also when I saw that the oil light was staying on even when the key was off. Any Idea What is wired wrong?

Re: Progress on The New 66

I just check the wires at the ignition switch and all the wires light up on the "on" position except the red with blue strip and when I turn it to the start pos. all the wires exept the shaft on back light up. When I go out under the hood and have someone turn it to start, the red and blue doesnt light up on the syliniod. So from the syliniod to the fire wall That red and blue strip wire there is no power. but there is power to that wire at the switch. So what Im going to do is trace the rest of the wires from the switch through out the harness and start replacing wires! Im getting some progress here!!

Re: Progress on The New 66

Ok heres the scoop...Im still having all kinds of problems. I put a holley 600 on the car and it was running better. Much less smoke but still running rough! I started pulling plugs while the motor was running and heres what happened I pulled wire 1 and no difference in sound, wire 2- rpms went up wire 3- rpm went up plug 4-no difference plug 5 I dont think much of a difference plug 6 rpms went up plug 7- stumbled plug 8 stumbled. Now I replaced the wires and it ran better but still rough. I replaced the cap and rotor now the car doesnt want to run it will start up but dies right away. I replaced it with a borg warner cap and rotor. So I think Im going to take the cap and rotor back or atleast swap the old cap back on.

My question is is the firing to me it sounds like the firing order is off but the wires are corect ive checked different books and they all give the same order. Another thing is when the cars running I get smoke comming through where the spark plug seats and the plugs are getting soaked!

Any pointers at all?

Re: Progress on The New 66

Ok when doing a test should I pull the fuel pump off also? So I dont have fuel going inside the cylinders or do I need the fuel in there?
