Re: not sure what we have here

I took a 360 and built a 6000 rpm 431 stroker. Edelbrock heads and intake with Scat crank and roller everything. Should be around 500 hp according to the builder and the motor is VERY streetable. 2200 stall might be a little low for the size of the car but she runs respectible for such a large girl. A fairlane shouldn't have that problem. Heads and exhaust are the two biggest power killers on the FE motor. Drop the intake for an aluminum version and you drop 50#, or atleast it feels like it. I've built an FE stroker and a 385series BBF stroker. Both are expensive if you buy all the parts new. FE ran around 7k a few years ago. Good luck!

Re: not sure what we have here

As gbeeler suggests, stroker is the way to go. In that case all you should use, of the original parts, is the block (and maybe some bolts). Stroker kits, heads, and intakes are available that will out perform any of the stock stuff that will fit your bore.

We found the numbers on the heads today. C8AE-H---In searching the internet and here Im getting alot of different words on these.A caouple different references say that the C7ME-A on the block means its a 428,We checked the bore on the engine today and I was able to just slip 4.05 in there. The rods are about 6.5 inches long and the stroke(as best as I could measure it was around 3 and 3/4".Others here and elsewhere are sfaying the c7mea doesnt mean a whole lot. Other than it is a 67 for sure.
As for the numbers on the heads C8AE-H Im hearing its 1968 and 427 from one place on internet. Then Ive also heard that those #'s dont real;ly mean anything other than they are 1968 heads.Does anything mean anything on these other than the year?(Blocks or heads?)

Re: not sure what we have here

C8AE-H heads are for 1968 360/390/428 motor with thermactor, these would have 67-70cc chamber.
No problems there.
If the smog system has been disconnected there will be small plugs on the top of each exhaust outlet.
David.

Re: not sure what we have here

Here is a web site that says the C7MEA is a 330 mediun duty truck block or a 428 police intercepter cobra jet!

Ford FE Engine Block Casting Numbers - FORDification.com

As far as the heads go there are only a few differences but most of the common heads are on everything from the 352 to the 428. I believe the C4AE heads and the C8AE heads are the most wanted stock heads but I'm sure others will disagree.
