not sure what we have here

hello--wondering if someone may be able to give us a little info here.I just bought an old ford FE engine from a friend.Ive got a 65 fairlane that has no engine or drive train and I want to make it a nasty one.Got some pretty bad ass chevys(but we arent the enemy) and now I want a ford torque monster.Side of block sais 352 which Ive learnrd is on all ford FE's.Weve got it down to bare block now.Bore is 4.05 I think. Not sure of stroke yet.heads have C7MEA on them.only numbers I can find on crank are S321.Also has 7F26 on the head I think.Do you know what Ive got here?Im going to be putting alot into this cause I want it to be the baddest ford around.I want the most HP and R's I can get and still have this thing hook up half way decent with the biggest street tire and ladder bars. Dont want to tub.Any idea what Im working with here and what might you suggest . Thanks and we look forward to any suggestions anyone might have AL

Hey Mr. AML390,
To find the stroke, take the Spark Plug out of the Driver's Side Front Cylnder (No. 5), use the adjacent Dip Stick to measure the stroke. Insert the Dip Stick through the Spark Plug hole. Turn the engine till the piston is at TDC. Make a mark on the DS. Then turn the engine till it is at BDC and make another mark. The distance between the marks will be the stroke.

Re: not sure what we have here

Was the engine already apart when you got it? The bore on a 390 is 4.05. Not sure if anything above that has the same or not, although i think the 410 might be but stroke would answer which of the two it is. But don't believe so and say it's 390.

The C7ME is '67 Mustang I think. lol At least that's what my block had on it and it was Mustang. Someone here wil know positively, but' 1967 is right.

7F26 - 1967 june 26th. Date of casting

Here is a list of engine sizes with bore diameters and strokes that may help you out. Keep in mind that these are virgin numbers without overbore.

(cid) Bore X Stroke

(332) 4.000 X 3.300
(352) 4.002 X 3.500
(360) 4.052 X 3.500
(390) 4.052 X 3.784
(391) 4.052 X 3.784
(406) 4.130 X 3.784
(410) 4.054 X 3.980
(427) 4.232 X 3.784
(428) 4.132 X 3.980

Re: not sure what we have here

I have a list of all casting numbers for FE motors, as i am building one at the moment.
And C7ME-A is not listed.
Just double check the head cast and also what is the block cast number, they should all look something like C6XX-X C7XX-X, the C being decade and the next number the year, also should have a number on the crank.
David.

Yeah---I know---I got a stock 390 in a 40 somthing hundred pound 67 galaxie and that motor just slings the car sideways at half throttle.Thats what started betting me interested in building a ford.Back when I was 15 I used to beat the **** out of my dads girl friends LTD I think it was----70 or 71---crazy nuts on that too.How do you make these torque monsters hook up? Ny sig other had a 96 lincoln mark V111 with 4.6 when we met 10 ago----that thing had huge nuts too but that car hooked right up and then leaped

Sorry, can't tell you anything other than they are '67 heads. All my books are at the garage where I store my car which is 40 miles from here. Without looking it up, I am not much good with casting and part numbers.
