Parts source
Went to the Indian Casino in Oklahoma this weekend, and on the way noticed a well organized auto salvage yard. Just the few seconds I could see the yard, driving by at 80, I could see some really cool car bodies. Looked it up when I got home and this is a great source for Galaxie parts.

Re: Parts source
I thought cool at first...
Then I saw this...
Quote:
1967 289 4-Barrel Engine & C4 Auto. Transmission
Has aluminum 4-barrel intake, finned aluminum valve covers. Carter AFB Competition Series Carburator. This is a great running engine, sounds good, no smoke. Ready to install in any mustang, fairlane, ranchero, galaxie, any ford small block application. Only $1,200.00
|
That's a hell of a lot for a motor in unknown condition...
Then the price of the 46 Ford sedan and several other husks...
What the heck?? The prices they're asking are outrageous...

Re: Parts source
Yeah I'm cheap, but the majority of the Ford's they're selling aren't worth more than a Grand if they run, and asking $2995 for damn near everything even front end and motor less is a bit past retarded...

Re: Parts source
I've been going there since I was 15. It was a couple of brothers who owned it. Alan I think, and I can't remember the other one. I bought a Magnum 500 rim, a wing glass, and a few other odds and ends over the years. Their prices are high because many of their cars are not salvage. They maintain many titles. That said, their prices are still unrealistic. Even for rusty hulks they ask around $2,000. Plus only once was I there and not treated rudely, like I was bothering them. Sometimes when I've been they tell you to hunt for your own part, then they will pull it. Other times they've said no one is allowed into the yard unescorted. It flip flops.
I used to drive by there daily when I was the engineering inspector for Denton County. Didn't see a lot of turnover. Prices and service are probably why. Local car guys I know have had mostly similar experiences.
They were trying to get a short drag strip going there along the railroad track but I don't think it every really took off. Likely for similar reasons.
This all sucks because over the years I've seen many, many awesome cars of all makes back to the 30's in fixable condition decay badly.

Re: Parts source
To put in perspective the high cost of this old 289 (granted, a transmission is included), see this recent post.
