What kind of carb?

I have a 460 that I'm putting into my 63 Galaxie, that I use just for the street and highway. I want to put in a Holley 850 but I don't know what type to put in, manual choke versus electric, etc. What part number is best for what I'm doing?

Electric choke once set properly is real nice, and I mean real nice, as you don't have to worry about running a cable to the cab to set the choke...

Both have their advantages.

But neither is "better" than the other.

Choke, you guys run a choke? I have not had a choke on either of the old girls for over two years. When I did have a choke it was an electric version on an 800 cfm Edelbrock.

greg me neither, in fact I don't think i've ever had a working choke the entire time i've owned the car. Only time i would of used one maybe was when the engine was so warn out it was bout to die but don't think a choke would of helped to get it started.

Re: What kind of carb?

Need some specs on the engine. What level is the engine built to? What transmission?

Re: What kind of carb?

If you're doing it all original what the berjeezus do you need a carb for? The original carb for the 460 is probably a Motorcrap 4300...

But, the Original carb for your 63 Galaxie is almost certainly an Autolite 4100

So do you want original or do you need a few moments to gather your thoughts?

Projects are FUN, but very confusing at times.

Re: What kind of carb?

May I suggest a 750. Holley 850 is fine for a mild built 460 but, due to the large venturi, they are finicky and sometimes difficult to tune. I used a Holley 3310 750 vacuum secondary with the Ford kick down linkage. Worked great.
